Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Not a mere human

*CRAAASH*

Godfrey is sent through a building and slams into a wall. Debris is dislodged and bury the dazed boy.

'Grrr. Who dares strike me?!'

Godfrey looks to his chest and sees a gruesome wound. His skin is burned off and his muscles are mangled. Slowly he heals and Godfrey's rage peaks.

'They dare to harm me? I'll slaughter them all!!'

Lightning appears all around Godfrey as he gathers his strength. His golden eyes glow in anger and his body tenses. With his rage fueling his power, lightning arcs dangerously throughout the building and threatens to destroy it.

"AAAHHHH what's happening!!"

"Mommy I'm scared!!"

"It's ok baby, stay calm!!"

Panicked shouting suddenly registers to Godfrey's acute senses, and his anger drains away.

His eyes widen as he realizes that, had he allowed his rage to consume him, he would have destroyed the building along with everyone in it. Godfrey clenches his fist and reproaches himself.

'...I vowed to never let my rage consume me...yet I almost failed.'

"I'LL KILL YOU ALL!!!"

His mother's shout brings Godfrey out of his stupor. Explosions rock the very ground as the debris press down on him further.

Godfrey deduces that those explosions have weakened the building's structural integrity, judging by the groaning of metal and concrete. He quickly uses his Divine Sense to scan the higher floors.

'Oh no. Everyone made it out except that family that was panicking. They're at the 15th floor. Damn it all.'

*BAAAAAAAM*

A shockwave suddenly washes over the building and threatens to shatter it.

'Father is angry too. I must hurry'

Godfrey condenses his lightning and uses it to enhance his speed and strength. He bursts out of the debris and looks around. He finds stairs leading to the higher floors and races upwards. Godfrey locates the family with his Divine Sense and slams open the door.

"AHHHHH"

A little girl's scream rings out and Godfrey scans the room.

Immediately, he notes that a man is laying unconscious on the floor with copious amounts of blood pooling around his head. Godfrey rips a portion of cloth from his own pants and wraps the wound as best as he can.

A woman's voice then shakily asks.

"Who are you??!!"

The woman is holding her daughter with tears in her eyes. She is terrified, yet she tries to remain strong for her child.

Godfrey nods and praises her bravery.

"You'll be alright. You've done well in keeping yourself calm. Allow me to carry your family to safety."

The woman is taken back by the awkward attempt at calming her down, and realises that this 'man' is just a boy.

She hurriedly holds her daughter out and pleads.

"Please take my daughter! Save her! Please!"

The words hit Godfrey like a sledgehammer.

'Even in this chaos, a mother will always think of her child and make the ultimate sacrifice.'

Godfrey looks to his hands, and again they are stained with blood.

'Even when the beggar child's mother knew it was prohibited, she sold bread near the palace for her child. No doubt for the bustling crowds.'

Godfrey punches himself and creates a mini shockwave.

The mother panics as she stumbles back.

"AHH why are you punching yourself??"

Godfrey smiles and waves away her concern.

'Focus. I must focus. How do we get out of here.'

The building suddenly lurches and the child shouts.

"NOOOOO, mommy!!"

The woman loses her balance and falls to the ground, thankfully uninjured.

'That's it!'

Godfrey becomes a whirlwind of speed. He picks up the father and child in both arms. Then he turns to the mother and asks seriously.

"Can I ask you to trust me?"

The woman looks at him for a second.

"Yes!"

Godfrey nods.

"Good, wrap your arm around my neck and do not let go."

The woman does so in a mild state of confusion. She opens her mouth to voice her thoughts, but has to close it immediately as Godfrey sprints for a large window.

"Here we go. Huuuup"

*CRASH*

"AHHHHH!"

The little girl screams as they all go through the window and plummet rapidly.

Godfrey closes his eyes and spreads his senses. He feels the wind battering his skin, he feels gravity, pulling him downwards, he feels the fear from the family and from the people below.

'I am no mere boy. I am a God. Gravity does not shackle me.'

Then it all stops.

The winds no longer slam into him and gravity no longer exerts its hold. The family's fear turns into hope.

Godfrey opens his eyes as he slowly floats downwards.

The woman whispers to herself.

"...incredible..."

They gently land on the ground and are almost thrown to it when the earth shakes.

Godfrey looks to the distance and sees fire and smoke. He realizes that his parents had to take the fight to a less populated area. He turns to the mother and says his goodbyes.

"I must assist my parents in quelling this violence. Head to the authorities and stay safe."

Godfrey slightly bends his knees and propels himself skywards. He extends his fists forward and he rockets to his parent's location.

"I'LL KILL YOU ALL!!"

Calanthe screams bloody murder as she unleashes blast after blast of explosive energy at robed figures.

"CALANTHE!! You must calm yourself! There are civilians."

Calanthe lowers the potency of her blasts and turns it into beams of concussive energy instead. Ambrose surveys the situation and sees 3 hooded figures. The largest of which stands at 5 meters tall.

The tallest figure steps out and claps. A hoarse voice suddenly sounds out that would send shivers down anyone's spine.

"Destructive indeed. Calanthe, your fame precedes you. If I knew it was this easy to rile you up, I would have attacked your child ages ago. Hahahaha."

Calanthe fires a blindingly fast energy beam at the behemoth. He swings his hand upwards and easily deflects the attack. He then flourishes his hand into a bow.

"I am Raphael. A pleasure to meet the both of you."

Ambrose prepares himself for combat as he asks a burning question.

"Why did you attack our son? Take care with how you answer."

The giant smiles and easily answers.

"Oh that? That was just for fu--"

He is interrupted as a brutal punch crushes his teeth. The giant of a man flies through the air and into the distance towards a forest.

While the other 2 robed figures are distracted with their companion's sudden departure, the destructive duo moves in sync.

Calanthe concentrates a blast of pure concussive energy that sends one of the robed figures helpessly flying away. Ambrose grabs another by the arm and throws them in the same direction.

Ambrose turns to Calanthe and assures her.

"Worry not my love. The smell of ozone is present. Our boy is well. Let us pursue them."

Calanthe nods and uses her energy as propulsion, while Ambrose flexes his legs and jumps towards the dastardly foes.

Two fists clash and produce a shockwave that devastates a portion of the forest.

*BOOOOOOM*

Raphael staggers back as Ambrose presses his advantage. Precise combos find vital areas again and again in a masterclass of technique and power.

Ambrose parries a haymaker and delivers a blow to the liver, then a front kick to the knee, and finally an uppercut to the throat.

The sound of bones breaking ring out continuously as the giant is beaten down by Ambrose. Ambrose moves for a crushing blow to Raphael's head, but has to disengage as a spiked tentacle tries to impale him.

Raphael gathers himself and his injuries heal at a visible rate. His tentacled ally removes their hood and introduces himself.

"The Great Ambrose. Truly you are powerful. I am Ezekiel. Heed my words, you will die here."

Raphael stands and dusts himself off.

"Impressive blows. Yet not enough to put me down."

Ambrose laughs and slaps his knee.

"Big words for someone who couldn't fight back."

Raphael suddenly lets loose a torrent of flame from his mouth towards Ambrose. Ambrose hurriedly claps his hand and produces a shockwave that disperses the flame.

"Woah that almost scared me. Come on then."

In another part of the forest, Calanthe is currently dominating her opponent.

She focuses her energy to a pinprick and pierces her foe's stomach..

"AHHHHHH"

The robed figures drops to a knee, and takes a blast to their face that blows their head back as they are flung away. The robed figure slams into a tree, snapping it in half and rolling a few more meters away.

Their hood comes off and a woman's scarred face is revealed. The scarred woman snarls at Calanthe, her voice dripping with hatred.

"You think you're winning Gallahad? You're not even close!"

A sharp wooden branch suddenly pierces towards the back of Calanthe's head, and is promptly shattered by a wave of energy bursting forth from Calanthe's body. She speaks in a whisper as she murderously glares at the woman.

"...you...were the one who curved the bullet."

Calanthe fires a blade of energy that severs the woman's legs from her body.

"GAAAHHHH MY LEGS!!"

The scarred woman writhes on the floor as Calanthe stares impassively.

"You would dare harm my baby? What strength do you rely on wench?!"

Another blade slice, and another leg severed.

"GAHHHHHAHAHAHA. You idiot."

The woman stops writhing and smirks at Calanthe.

"Yes, keep wasting time with me hahaha. Your husband should be halfway to the grave by now."

Calanthe's eyes widen as she hears a large impact and Ambrose's scream of pain.

"AAARRRRGGGHHHH"

Calanthe immediately flies towards Ambrose but is stopped as rocks and trees rush towards her. The scarred woman cackles in glee as Calanthe desperately tries to clear the way.

Energy bursts forth once more from her body but the debris doesn't stop. Calanthe scream in rage.

"LET ME GO!"

The scarred woman merely says.

"No."

Calanthe looks to her for a second and removes her head with a focused explosion.

*SQUELCH*

The floating trees and rocks drop to the ground as Calanthe bursts towards Ambrose as fast as she can.

Ambrose is knelt on the floor, with a gaping wound on the right side of his chest. He looks to Raphael who has half his body gone with blackened blood leaving his corpse, and then to Ezekiel who has a bloodied tentacle.

Ambrose musters up the strength to speak.

"You would...sacrifice...your ally just to kill me?"

Ezekiel wraps a tentacle around Ambrose's neck and snarls.

"I would sacrifice this whole city to do that! Heh, and who says he's dead?"

Raphael's body squirms and slowly starts healing. Ambrose sees this and is disgusted. He speaks out despite being choked.

"He's...like...a roach."

Ezekiel frowns and another tentacle appears, poised to strike.

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!!"

A sonic boom resounds above and everyone looks up. Ezekiel, in particular, sees a fist crackling with electricity close in rapidly.

A shockwave bursts out as the fist crunches against his face, and Ezekiel is then brutally flung deeper into the forest. Ambrose looks up and gives a weary smile.

"Hello my boy."
