Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Let it all fade

An imposingly large man stands alone on an open field.

*CRACKOOOM*

"Why..."

Golden Lightning booms overhead as the earth slowly collapses all around the solitary figure. He turns back and his golden eyes burn with a soul searing rage.

"Why do you all betray me?"

Gathered there is an army of immense might. Dragons, Gods, and Immortals alike stand ready for war.

Ready for him.

Runes dot the air as an impossibly dense barrier traps the large man.

A tall man with a spear and golden armour walks out and addresses him. His eyes speak of sorrow, yet it is hardened with responsibility.

"Godfrey, you've shaken the foundations of our society. The balance we have maintained for untold millennia crumbles like sand in your wake. End th-- "

"Balance?"

Godfrey interrupts and takes a step forward.

The army stumbles as the earth gives way to his strength. The barrier immediately fails as shockwaves shatter the runes and the army's formations.

"Honourable Bex'Gar, where was your balance when those things murdered my people? My wife??!! RAAAAARGGHHH!!"

Golden Lightning of pure malice and power bursts out of Godfrey's body and sends the frontline of the army, except for Bex'Gar, reeling away.

Bex'Gar uses his spear as support and desperately uses his Aura to defend himself. Godfrey slowly approaches and murderously snarls.

"Your so called balance is worth nothing to those demons. I believed in your vision, and my family was executed for it!!"

Godfrey suddenly lunges forward at such a speed that the sound barrier breaks. In an instant, he arrives in front of Bex'Gar.

"WAI-grrrk"

Bex'Gar's plea is interrupted as he is lifted by his neck. Godfrey hurls the betrayer into the sky and Bex'Gar uncontrollably hurtles higher and higher.

"Funny. You've always lamented the responsibility placed upon your shoulders as Supreme General of the Immortals."

Lightning strikes at Bex'Gar's body and his armour is shattered. The force of the bolt smashes him into the ground, cratering it.

*CRACKOOOM*

"AAARRRRGGGHHH-grrrk"

Godfrey picks him up, tightens his grip and laughs.

"Haha. Rejoice, old friend. I shall relieve you of your burdens by LIBERATING YOUR HEAD FROM YOUR BODY!!"

With his other hand, Godfrey grabs Bex'Gar's head and pulls.

"AHHHH, DON'T DO THIS GODFREY! YOU WOULD PLUNGE THE REALM INTO WAR?THE WORLD WOULD ONLY BURN!!"

Godfrey looks to the sky and lets out a breath.

"...then it burns."

Without warning, an arrow shatters upon Godfrey's face and the army charges.

"FOR THE GENERAL! FOR PEACE!!"

Godfrey ignores them as he stares into his friend's eyes.

"Why didn't you believe me? I was only a minute late. If you hadn't been a fool, then your sister would still be here. I had the cure in my hands!!"

Bex'Gar looks sympathetically at his old friend.

"There was no proof brother. I had to follo-"

He is interrupted once more by an earth shattering blow to his face, that once again drives the charging army back with the pure force of it.

"HOW DARE YOU!! MY WORD IS PROOF ENOUGH. I HAVE DEFENDED THIS WORLD ALONGSIDE YOU FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS!!"

A dragon teleports right on top of the conversing duo and swings its massive claws at Godfrey.

Godfrey glances upwards and immediately loses interest. The dragon's claws shatter upon contact and it is electrocuted to death.

"RIIIIIIIEEEEEKKKK"

The creature slowly crumbles into ash as Godfrey turns Bex'Gar around.

"Know this Bex'Gar. Your hands will be stained with their blood forevermore. So says Godfrey!!"

Godfrey's eyes glow with unbridled power. He reaches for the sky and forcefully tears downwards.

"YOU HAVE ALL BEEN JUDGED, AND WERE FOUND WANTING!!"

A gargantuan lightning bolt suddenly descends and an explosion akin to a mini supernova blasts out. The ground shatters and everything is atomised as the explosion blasts out.

It reaches Bex'Gar and he screams in profound agony as the electric force washes over his body.

"GAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Then there was silence.

Godfrey looks to his hand and sees Bex'Gar's slowly healing form.

"I commend you Bex'Gar. You always were the strongest of your people."

A massive axe materializes in Godfrey's hand and he raises it.

"Goodbye, broth-Bluuuurgh?"

A spear suddenly pierces through Godfrey's chest and golden blood spills from his mouth. Runes light up and his strength is siphoned into the spear.

Godfrey is forced onto his knees as his eyes snap to Bex'Gar and sees a hideous grin on his face. Emaciated clawed fingers hold the edge of 'Bex'Gar's' mouth and violently rips the whole body open.

"Poor GodKing. You never even realised that your good brother has been dead for thousands of years. I told you that the world would only burn."

The thing's skin peels away and reveals a grotesque amalgamation of faces. Each face is stuck in perpetual torment and yet they smile.

"You've made it easier for hell to invade, hahahaha. Such power you wield. You slaughtered all of this world's top combatants."

Godfrey's eyes widen. His rage now gone and his mind clear. He realises the folly of his actions.

When was it that his rage began?

When the world decided to forget his contributions? Or when they used his name to further their so called peace.

No. It was when his wife and his kingdom suddenly fell to an illness that only he knew the origin of. Not a single soul believed him when once they hung on his every word.

Godfrey knows now, why.

"Grrrk...demon..."

The demon's hand suddenly grips Godfrey's jaw and it gloats.

"Who knew that the easiest way to get you to turn on this world, was simply to kill an insignificant female immortal. HA. Such a stupid weakness. Their names are funny, they're the immortals but they die just the same."

The demon extends a claw towards Godfrey's chest as he continues.

"That spear there is going to use your energy to create a massive portal to hell. Large enough for the entire army to come through ahahahaha."

The demon grabs the spear and twists it.

"AAARRRGGGHH!!"

Golden ichor spills out and Godfrey's consciousness threatens to end. The demon looks upon Godfrey with thankfulness in its gaze.

"Thank you. Truly. We've got what we've always wanted. Die in torment Great GodKing."

The demon moves to rip the spear out but is stopped when Godfrey grips it instead. He looks to the demon and smiles.

"Thanks...for... monologue..."

The demon's eyes widen as it belatedly realises that the booming lightning overhead has only intensified since the beginning.

"...no...NOOO!! YOU WOULDN'T DARE!!"

Godfrey doesn't answer as his lungs have already failed. He gathers his life force and condenses it at an alarming rate.

'Ha. This world no longer holds my heart. It shall fade with me.'

The demon rains down blows that can crack islands, yet Godfrey keeps smiling.

"Cease, you Madman. I command you in my name as Luciferous Greed, the Demon General."

Godfrey looks into the demon's eyes and musters all of his remaining physical energy into one word.

"No."

Outer Space

A beautiful oasis world is spinning peacefully.

Until a truly colossal lightning bolt tears it in half.

*CRAAAAACCCCCKKKK*

The world then implodes.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*

Floating in the void, the last of Godfrey's lightning sputters out.

His body slowly turns to ash from the extremities as he ponders his decisions.

'I was caught off guard in my rage. Stupid. Could I have protected this planet even if I wasn't caught in a ploy?...no. There's no use thinking about that now'

He looks to his body, almost halfway gone.

'It was merely a general, yet it brought me low with a simple plan. I was conceited. If only I hadn't allowed myself to succumb to anger and hubris.'

He looks to a necklace slowly floating away.

'If only I was stronger. You would still be here, my love. I am sorry.'

With tears in his eyes, Godfrey slowly crumbles away.

.

A bright light suddenly appears and Godfrey is uncontrollably pushed towards it.

'What's this?'

With a *pop* he exits what seemed to have been a tunnel.

Incensed that he could not control something again, he lets loose a roar of rage. And yet...

"WAAAAHHHHHH"

'What manner of sorcery is this??'

He is shaken from his thoughts as a man picks him up and passes him off.

'Unhand me at once!! I cannnot see you clearly but once I can...'

Is what he meant to say. What comes out is a little less coherent.

"AAAAHHHHH! WAAAAHHHHHHH! WAAAHH!"

A large man then bursts through the doors and exclaims.

"Honey!! Are you well?! Please tell me you are ok!"

A beautiful woman on a hospital bed tiredly smiles and replies.

"I am... well, darling. Our child...let me see him."

The large man turns to the nurse and looks to his baby for the first time. What he sees leaves him in shock. Glowing golden eyes stare at him as if an intelligence were already behind them. He picks his child up and stares suspiciously.

'Is my child...'

Godfrey tries to resist as he dislikes the look in the large man's eyes.

'Unhand me!! I am Godfrey!!'

"WAHHH!"

The large man carefully brings the child to the woman and shares his thoughts.

"Honey, I think our son...might be a prodigy!!"

With that, he tosses Godfrey up and down as he celebrates.

'NOOOO!! LET ME GOOOOOOO!'

The woman panics and gets him to sit down.

"What makes you say that, darling?"

The man stares at Godfrey who is staring daggers at him.

"My son gives me the same look you do when I accidentally crush something."

The woman glances at the baby and giggles.

"Haha, so he does."

Godfrey carefully looks at the couple and comes to a realization.

'These two are my parents? I've been reborn!'

Just then, the large man stands and put his hand on his hips. He flashes a smile and makes a resounding announcement.

"MY SON GODFREY SHALL BECOME A SUPERHERO!!"

There was only one thought in Godfrey's mind.

'Is this man mentally ill?'
