Chapter 9 - The Price of Knowledge

The scattered fragments of purple crystals shimmered in the shimmering light of dawn, like some sort of mystical star map. Each fragment vibrated at the same frequency, emitting an almost imperceptible hum.

"Detecting unusual energy patterns," the system warned, "Similar to quantum entanglement."

I braced my weakened body and mobilized what was left of my blood energy to try to sense it. These fragments... They weren't resonating, they were sending a message!

"Jack, give me the portable spectrometer."

He handed over the instrument and I began scanning the nearest shard. The data stream immediately pulsed across the screen:

[Energy wavelength: 0.47μm

Physical structure: unknown crystal

Special phenomenon: quantum state instability

Note: DNA-like information encoded detected]

"Holy shit," Jack stared at the screen, "these aren't just ordinary crystals, but... Some kind of storage medium?"

Just then, the system suddenly gave a shocking analysis:

[Warning! Time information residue detected

Result: These crystals are from a future timeline.

Possibility: this is the carrier Dr. Elizabeth Reed used to transmit information]

"That's impossible..." I muttered, but in my heart I knew it did make sense.

Elizabeth, TEC's genius scientist, in her past life she was not only my mentor, but the one who led me to the path of awakening. It wasn't until the end... She revealed her true purpose.

"Ding! New memory fragment unlocked:

- Location: TEC Headquarters Laboratory

- Location: TEC HQ Labs. Time: Third year after the end of the previous life.

- Keyword: Project Genesis"

The memories came flooding back:

"The Genesis Protocol isn't just about evolution, Liam," Elizabeth stood in a lab filled with all sorts of instruments, playing with a purple crystal in her hand, "It's about a blueprint for remaking the entire human race. And you, my dear angel, will be the key to that plan."

At the time, I didn't understand the depth of her words. Until the moment of her betrayal...

"Liam!" Jack's voice snapped me back to reality, "The crystals, they're... Are moving!"

Indeed, all the fragments began to float slowly, as if pulled by some invisible force. They arranged themselves into a complex pattern in the air.

"Is that... . a DNA double helix structure?" Jack frowned.

No, it was more complicated than that. It's...

"The Genesis Code," my voice trembles a little, "it's the ultimate code that Elizabeth has studied all her life. It contains the complete map of human genetic evolution."

"But why now? why at this point in time..."

I interrupted, "Because it's not a coincidence.Elizabeth knew I would be reborn, and she prepared for it in the future. These crystals, she kept for herself... Time information!"

[Warning! Detection of crystal energy beginning to resonate

Energy annihilation expected in 5 minutes.

Recommend recording data immediately]

We began frantically recording the patterns in front of us. This information is crucial, it not only relates to Elizabeth's plan, but it could reveal the truth about the entire End Times.

But just then, a bigger question surfaced in my mind: if Elizabeth was able to transmit the information to her past self, then... Does she in this present timeline already know everything?

Including my rebirth?

"Decoding complete: 60%"

The system's progress bar was growing by leaps and bounds.

Suddenly, a sharp headache hit. Those decoded messages contained certain... Knowledge that shouldn't exist.

"Liam, your nose is bleeding!" Jack said anxiously.

But I couldn't stop. The information was too important!

"Decoding complete: 85%"

The scene in front of me begins to blur, and a sharp buzzing rings in my ears. Was this the price of peering into the future?

"Final warning! Host mental capacity reaching limit!"

"Just . . a little more..."

In the last moments before losing consciousness, I saw the last decoded message:

"Project Angel isn't about saving humanity, my dear Liam. It's about transcending it. . you are not the only one who came back."

And then everything went dark.
