Chapter 3 - Whispering winds of Alteria

Alex remained calm and tried to find out what was happening first even in such unknown situation.

First, he noticed a rainbow-colored strip beneath him, moving and seemingly carrying him somewhere.

Then he realized the rainbow itself was emanating from him." It's taking me somewhere… but where?"he wondered.

Than he slap himself, "Maybe I am in a Dream, after all what kind of sick show it would be in reality.

But as he questioned the logic of dreaming so clearly, a voice echoed around him, and a translucent screen appeared before his eyes.

["Welcome to the world of Alteria,"] the voice announced.

"Alteria…?" Alex murmured, frowning.

Ignoring his question, the voice continued, and the screen before him began to display scenes after scenes.

[A long time ago, the Ancient Gods ruled the world of Alteria. Mortals lived full and happy lives, in harmony with their divine protectors.]

["But their happiness was short-lived. Space-time rifts began tearing open across Alteria, and Demonic Gods poured in from different timelines, spreading chaos and destruction wherever they went."]

The voice grew darker, almost with a hint of rage.

["Angered by this invasion, the Ancient Gods waged a colossal war against the Demonic Entities, now remembered as the Ancients' Last Battle. After an eternity of brutal conflict, the Ancient Gods emerged victorious—but not without paying a terrible price. Many of them were on the brink of death."]

["Not wanting to leave the universe empty and allow the mortals who had believed in them to suffer, the Ancient Gods created twelve New Gods, who now rule the world."]

Alex listened closely, mesmerized by the story and the scenes playing out before him. "Even the most advanced action cinemas can't pull off effects this realistic," he muttered, captivated.

"And now what Select a Character."

Alex was made joke and start to giggles with his own joke.

"If I wasn't already familiar with the virtual reality of the modern Cyberpunk world from my previous life, I would have easily believed this to be true. It's so believable," he thought, amused. 'Guess I've found a new toy to mess around with in my free time.'

He smirked, but the lack of knowledge about this world made him almost buy into the fantasy. 'Maybe it's a little harsh to laugh at myself for almost believing it', he thought, still amused.

But before he could indulge in more jokes, the voice spoke again.

["You are traveling toward Alteria."]

In the next instant, a blinding white light enveloped Alex, pulling him forward. He felt himself being transported into another realm—the realm of Alteria.

"What the hell is happening?" Alex exclaimed in horror.

Moments later, the light faded, and his surroundings began to shift. The empty space around him morphed into clouds, filled with the sounds of birds chirping. Dazed, Alex muttered, "Wait… where am I?"

To his shock, he realized he was high up in the sky, rapidly descending toward the ground. Looking down, he spotted a bustling town below, alive with people moving about, chatting, and going about their daily lives.

With no time to spare, Alex's calm façade shattered. He opened his mouth and let out a piercing scream that echoed through the air.

"AAAAAAAAAHHHH." 'Am I really going to die a worthless death, Hell! I even endured sixteen years of shitty life just to be alive.' Alex thought while screaming.

After all, anyone would scream if they found themselves plummeting from such a height without any kind of safety net, especially in a place as strange and unfamiliar as this. Alex was no exception.

"Waaaaahhh!!!"

"Waaaaahhh!!!"

Involuntarily, Alex shut his eyes, the rush of wind whipping past his ears.

Unbeknownst to him, a green wind began to gather around his body, lifting and cradling him like the tide of a gentle sea. After a few moments, the fierce howling of the wind softened, blending into a gentle murmur. Feeling something was amiss, Alex's eyes snapped open, and before he could fully grasp what was happening, he found himself gently lowered to the ground.

As he steadied himself, Alex noticed something unusual: three shimmering words formed from the green wind, hanging in the air. They read, "Save the World."

The phrase echoed in his mind, leaving him both curious and unsettled.

The wind that had once surrounded him, soft as dust, now dispersed into the air, leaving only a faint trace behind.

Soon, the ambient sounds of people's voices replaced the atmospheric silence. Alex overheard snippets of conversations:

"Mister, how much for this apple?"

"Just 2 bronze coins for you, ma'am!"

… …

"Haha Try to catch me Andy!"

"Stop, give me back my toy!"

""Hmph... These children never listen to me. Hey stop running like this, Listen to mommy."

" ...."

Amidst the lively chatter, Alex pondered the source of the voices. He realized he was standing behind a large, towering tree, hidden from view. Glancing to the side, he noticed a brick road stretching out beside him, reminiscent of the roads from ancient times.

Taking in his surroundings, he saw that he was in a bustling plaza market.

What the heck is happening to me? Where am I? he wondered. How did I go from a high-tech world to this… fantasy realm?

After a few tentative steps, he came across a small fountain shaped like a heart, seemingly popular with couples who lingered nearby.

Around it, various stalls offered fruits, clothes, food, tools, and more.

The whole scene evoked the charm of a medieval era, and Alex couldn't help but think of the fantasy manga and novels he had read in his past life.

"Before, I had never had any opportunity to explore the sci-fi world I transmigrated to. Now, the gods have given me an opportunity to see this world. How could I miss it?"

His interest was piqued, and he began looking around curiously.

Sometimes he lingered by vendors to inspect their products, intrigued by the variety. Other times, he eavesdropped on conversations, piecing together fragments of life in this strange world. Every detail he absorbed brought him closer to understanding this place, and he was determined to learn all he could.

Amidst the market commotion, a sudden clamor caught Alex's attention. The voices of the people filled the air:

"Do you know the guards found the old tree aging really fast?"

"Oh no, the Imperial Ancestry Tree is withering. Which bastard angered the Gods again?"

Intrigued, Alex followed the crowd, which led him to a large gathering surrounding the old tree.

Once vibrant and green, the tree now appeared yellowed and lifeless.

Tears were shed, and people clung to the tree, expressing their gratitude and reverence for its kindness and generosity. Even non-believers bowed in respect.

As the tree continued to wither, a gentle gust of yellow wind brushed past Alex, carrying a fragrance that made him frown.

Unlike the urgent scent of the previous green wind, this fragrance exuded gratitude and contentment.

Observing the tree he had landed near, now completely transformed into a withered yellow state, Alex couldn't help but wonder what was happening in this world he had been transported to.
