Lucas thought this might be his chance to learn more about the world. He believed Eldric could be the key to understanding what was really going on. But he couldn't ask too many questions; that would seem suspicious. He already felt like he stood out enough and didn't want to make things worse.
He sighed and decided to let the topic go for now. Maybe he could find some answers in a book when he finally got to the main city.
"By the way, Eldric, how can I get to the main city?" Lucas asked.
"Hm, why don't you come with me later? I'm heading to my guild to get a new mission since I couldn't finish my last one," Eldric replied.
Lucas' eyes widened. 'Is he talking about those goblins?'
"I can also show you where to find books about magic," Eldric added. "You might learn more about your element there."
Lucas smiled. "Thanks!"
"No problem. If you don't have any more questions, I'll get back to my training."
"Uh, sure. Go ahead. Thanks for helping me figure out my element."
"Alright then."
Eldric walked toward a tall tree and got ready to train again. Lucas stayed behind, unsure of what else to do, so he decided to watch. As he observed, he noticed the tree Eldric was aiming at was different from before. This one was much larger and older, like it had stood there for hundreds of years. No matter how many water balls or ice shards Eldric threw at it, the tree didn't even have a scratch.
Eldric kept firing water balls and ice shards, over and over again. Lucas couldn't help but wonder, 'Is there really a point to this training? Is this the only magic spells he knows?'
The more Lucas watched, the more he noticed something interesting: Eldric never seemed to run out of mana. Lucas knew that a mage's mana core could only hold so much, which meant Eldric must have a lot of mana stored up.
'Is this training to increase his mana capacity? Does a mana core work like stamina?' Lucas thought.
But he was wrong. Eldric's training had nothing to do with increasing his mana capacity. Curious, Lucas finally decided to ask.
"Um, Eldric," Lucas called out, "why are you using the same spells over and over again? Don't you know other spells? I don't get what this training is for."
Eldric stopped and turned to him.
"Ofcourse, I know other magic spells, but the purpose of my training is so that I can cast magic spells faster. You can learn many type of strong magic spells, but nothing is more deadly than being a really fast magic spell caster, to simply put it, even if you learned a really strong magic spell attack but it takes really long for it to be cast, a person who can only do simple magic spell would kill you instantly."
Lucas nodded, taking it in. 'So, speed over strength?'
"Oh, I see. Thanks for explaining, and sorry for interrupting."
"It's fine. You can ask me anything you're curious about."
Lucas smiled to himself. 'Eldric is really kind. I shouldn't be so quick to judge people.'
