Alana's pov
Three months passed in a blur of heartache and hope. I found solace in our memories, but the ache of Kael's absence never faded. As I returned home from work one evening, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink, I noticed a figure standing on my doorstep.
My heart raced as I approached, squinting against the fading light. The figure turned, and my breath caught in my throat. It was Kael.
"Alana," he said, his voice a soft, familiar melody that sent a rush of emotions flooding through me.
"Kael!" I exclaimed, sprinting forward and throwing my arms around him. He caught me, lifting me off the ground as he spun me in a joyful embrace. Tears streamed down my face as I buried my face in his shoulder, overwhelmed by the warmth and comfort of having him back.
"I missed you so much," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.
"I missed you too," he replied, his breath warm against my ear. "You have no idea how hard it was to be away."
As we finally pulled apart, I took a moment to really look at him. He looked healthier, more vibrant, and there was a newfound spark in his eyes that made my heart soar. "You're back," I breathed, unable to contain my happiness.
"I'm back for good," he promised, his expression serious yet filled with warmth.
Before I could respond, he leaned in, capturing my lips in a passionate kiss that sent fireworks exploding through my veins. The world around us faded away, and all that mattered was the connection we shared—the love that had only grown stronger during our time apart.
As we broke apart, breathless and smiling, I couldn't help but laugh. "You have no idea how worried I was."
Kael chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. "I know. But I promise you, I won't leave again. I've learned what's truly important."
We stood on my doorstep, the evening air thick with possibility and warmth. I took his hand, leading him inside, feeling a sense of joy enveloping us.
As the door closed behind us, I knew that we were ready to face whatever the future held—together.
And in that moment, with the weight of our love grounding us, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
