As I pushed through the crowd of congratulating soldiers, my patience thinned. Their voices blended into a meaningless hum as one thought dominated my mind: Iris. I had been away from her too long, and I knew it. A place like this wasn't safe for her, not when wolves as dangerous as Vincent roamed freely.
When I reached our table and saw it empty, my chest tightened. My eyes darted across the sea of bodies, scanning for her, but she was nowhere in sight. Her beauty always caught my eye, even in the most crowded of places, it stood out to me. Yet now, she had disappeared.
Spotting the maids who had been attending to her earlier, I crossed to them in a few swift strides. "Where is Iris?" My voice was calm but sharp enough to make both of them flinch. Their hesitation irritated me.
"S-she was with Lady Hannah last we saw, Sir" one stammered.
