Chapter 1 - Key to Chaos

Chapter 1

The sky went dim. Lanterns were lit. It was nighttime at a wine shop on the border of the Versa kingdom.

"One more cup of rum, please," a man said.

"Harwin, you have exceeded the limit. Go back home."

"I said one more cup of rum, please."

"Did you hear?" whispered one of the customers at the table. He continued, "The king is still searching for that Evania. He has gone mad, I think."

"Mad?"

"Yeah, he burned down Rock City and slaughtered a thousand innocents just to find that damn place... Evania."

"Do you think Evania really exists?"

"Who knows, even if it exists or not," he replied.

"The king has exceeded his limit. He could get into a world of trouble."

"Give me a damn cup of rum!" Harwin jumped on his stool and shouted.

Suddenly, the bar's door opened. A fine smell of cigarette smoke swept through the room. A group of men entered. A bearded man, about thirty years old, led them. He was smoking, and his eyes began searching for someone in the shop.

And they fixed on Harwin.

''He is the man!" the leader pointed toward Harwin and moved toward him.

The leader sat just opposite Harwin and asked,

''Harwin! Right?''

"Yeah, and what do you want?" Harwin asked aggressively.

''The key to the Tyles."

"And who said it's in my possession?"

"Maze," the leader said.

"Huh! That brat again," Harwin thought silently.

"Okay, cigarette, I don't have any keys. You can go," Harwin replied carelessly.

The leader took out a sword and pointed it at Harwin. "Now you say, where is the key?" he shouted.

Harwin stood up. "Okay! Okay! Stop this nonsense," he said, jumping up.

"Give me the key, or I will take it myself."

"The key!" Harwin dodged the sword. "Take it, man!"

The whole group started fighting with Harwin, and he took them down single-handedly.

"He is a half-drunk man, right? How is he fighting all these men alone?" One of the customers was surprised.

"I have seen him somewhere before," another customer added.

Harwin kicked the leader toward a shelf full of beer, and both he and the shelf fell down.

Harwin moved toward the leader. "I think you made a mistake," he said as he sat down on the floor.

"One cup of whiskey, please," he said, changing his focus to the seller. "Where is Maze now?" he asked, focusing back on the leader.

"At the old castle."

Harwin stood up and said, "Okay then! Let's go," offering a hand to the leader.

"Yes! He was once a soldier in the Versa army."

"I think…Harwin Longh," the other customer suddenly remembered.

Harwin and the men exited the shop, with Harwin holding a bottle of whiskey.

''How are we supposed to go?'' Harwin asked. The leader pointed to a small hill where about five or six horses were tied.

''And what's your name?'' Harwin asked the leader.

''Teryn!'' the leader replied, his anger palpable.

''Nice to meet you, Teryn!'' They moved toward the horses.

Suddenly, Harwin saw a boy tied to a tree.

Harwin moved to the tree.

'Water... water,' the boy cried in a low voice.

Harwin untied the rope, and the boy fell toward him.

''Damn!''

''Gi... give me some water,'' the boy whispered.

''Oh kid, I don't have any water,'' Harwin said. "Do you drink whiskey?" he asked, showing the bottle.

Harwin leaned the boy against a nearby tree, kept the bottle close, and asked, "What is your name?"

"Arth..." The boy was so tired that only air came out of his mouth.

Harwin stood up and walked toward the horses.

In the last frame, we saw Harwin moving forward to the horses while the boy drank the whiskey.
