Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 - Attack (8)

Jessica then appeared beside the shaman, her eyes blazing with determination as she launched a kick of her own.

Her leg shot out in a swift, deadly arc, but the shaman dodged with ease, stepping to the side as it caught her leg in mid-air.

With a sudden, brutal motion, the shaman raised Jessica high, her body suspended in the air for a moment before it slammed her against the ground of the pillar they stood on.

The pillar shook and trembled due to the force of the impact, the sound of the collision echoing through the air with a loud Thud!

Viona appeared behind the shaman, her great sword raised high as she prepared to strike.

But in a swift, unexpected motion, the shaman spun around, using Jessica as a human flail to whip Viona with incredible force.

Both Jessica and Viona were sent flying into another pillar, their bodies crashing into the stone with a deafening Crash!

The sound of the impact was like thunder, shaking the very foundations of the air.

As Jessica and Viona fell to the ground, Grant cast his wind magic, the gentle breeze cushioning their fall with a soft Whoosh!

The magic was a gentle caress, a soothing balm that eased the impact of their landing.

I then turned to Katherine, my voice barely above a whisper as I asked her if she could do one favor for me. My eyes locked onto hers, my gaze intense as I awaited her response.

She nodded her head, her eyes locked onto mine with a determined glint. I then flew her to one of the only standing pillars left, the wind rushing past us with a soft Whoosh!

As we landed on the pillar, I gazed out towards the town's gates, my eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of the remaining goblin army.

For the most part, most of them had fled, abandoning their posts in a chaotic rout.

The sound of their panicked yelps and screams echoed through the air, a distant cacophony that seemed to fade into the night.

I then refocused on the task at hand, my mind narrowing to the challenge ahead.

I conjured lightning and fire on my palm, the elements combining to form a blazing plasma.

The air around me seemed to distort and ripple, the heat emanating from my hand like a palpable force.

I shaped the plasma into an arrow form, its tip glowing with an intense, blinding light.

I didn't know if it was possible to hand over such magic to someone, but I had to try. I gave the plasma arrow to Katherine, and formed another, the process draining more and more of my mana.

I felt my energy waning, my body beginning to feel the strain of using such powerful magic.

I shaped the next plasma arrow and gave it to Katherine, my movements swift and precise.

After doing that, I launched myself at the shaman, flames bursting out of my feet with a loud Whoosh!

The fire propelled me forward, my body a blur as I shot towards the shaman. Within seconds, I reached the shaman, my blade flashing in the moonlight as I swung it in a deadly arc.

CLANG!

The shaman blocked my attack with its staff, the sound of the impact echoing through the air like a death knell.

Yeah, it would be easy for it. It was making light work of [C-] ranks, so a borderline [D-] rank like me was nothing to it.

The thought sent a surge of frustration through me, but I knew I couldn't give up. Not yet.

Twisting my body, I launched a roundhouse kick at the shaman, my leg flashing in the moonlight as I aimed for its chest.

But the shaman was too quick, too powerful, and it blocked my kick with ease before punching me with a force that knocked the air out of my lungs, again.

The impact was like a sledgehammer, sending me flying backwards as I skidded on the ground of the pillar.

My body slid across the stone, my skin scraping against the rough surface with a harsh Scraaape!

The shaman was about to launch at me, its eyes blazing with an unholy intensity, when a flash of light caught both our eyes.

The light was blinding, a searing radiance that seemed to pierce the very air itself. And then, in an instant, the light vanished, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

The plasma arrow had pierced the shaman's flesh, and then... BOOM! A deafening explosion occurred, the sound wave washing over me like a physical force.

The blast pushed me off the pillar, sending me tumbling through the air. I immediately used flames to fly, the fire erupting from my feet with a soft Whoosh! as I stabilized myself in mid-air.

This time, the arrow had pierced the shaman's leg, exploding from the inside out.

The sound of the explosion was like a crack of thunder, a loud Report! that echoed off the pillars.

Not waiting to see if that had gotten the shaman, I conjured two fire lances that I launched at the shaman's location.

The flames shot through the air, their tips burning with a fierce, intense light.

BOOM!

The explosion shook the pillar, the sound wave washing over me like a physical force.

"Kid, behind you!" I heard a loud scream from behind, the voice piercing the din of battle.

I immediately felt a chill down my spine, my heart racing with a sudden surge of fear. But before I could move, the shaman touched me, its hand closing around my arm like a vice.

It grabbed me, holding me in place as it began to murmur some incomprehensible incantation.

The words were like a dark, twisted spell, the sound sending shivers down my spine.

I immediately entered elemental mode, unleashing a burst of lightning that crackled with energy.

The electricity coursed through my body, imbuing me with its power as I struck the shaman's face with a swift, precise blow.

The impact was like a thunderclap, the sound echoing through the air with a sharp Crack!

The shaman's head bobbed to the side, its body rocked by the force of the blow, but it immediately turned its head back to face me, its eyes blazing with an unnatural fury. Shit.

As I was on the verge of panic, Joseph appeared between us, his sword flashing in the moonlight as he cut the shaman's hand away from me.

The sound of the blade biting into flesh was like a sickening Thwack! Joseph then spun around, using the momentum to launch a powerful roundhouse kick at the shaman.

The kick landed with a loud Thud!, sending the shaman flying far into another pillar.

The pillar crashed entirely, the sound of the impact echoing through the air with a deafening Boom!

Grant then raised his hand into the sky, his eyes fixed intently on the shaman's location. A giant blue magic circle appeared in the air, its edges pulsing with energy.

Immediately upon seeing the circle, Joseph grabbed me, his arm wrapping around my waist like a vice.

Viona grabbed the still unconscious Jessica, cradling her in her arms as Katherine ran on her own, her feet pounding the ground with a swift patter.

Grant then muttered in a low voice, "Collapse".

The world seemed to shake as a giant meteor came out of the blue magic circle, its surface blazing with a fierce, intense heat.

The meteor hurtled towards the ground with a loud Whoooosh!, its velocity increasing with every passing moment.

It landed where the shaman had crashed from Joseph's kick, the impact sending a massive shockwave through the air.

The sound of the meteor's impact was like a colossal Boom!, the ground shaking beneath our feet as the very foundations of the earth seemed to tremble.
