Whoa. My stats had increased exponentially huh. I was borderlining [E] rank already. And that's after only one mission.

I couldn't help but I grin as I thought of how strong I could potentially become. Now then I've basically completed my request, and I've seen [Devour] in action, so guess I should head back.

But just as I was about to leave, I heard some faint sounds coming from inside the cave.

"Graa?" "Graa..." The goblins' high-pitched chirps were actually kind of cute.

I turned around, peering deeper into the goblin nest, my sword still splattered with blood from the fight.

There, I saw a bunch of baby goblins huddled together, their beady little eyes still closed. They were pretty harmless, but I knew I couldn't just leave them there.

With a shrug, I sheathed my sword and pulled out a knife, moving closer to the baby goblins. No point in drawing this out.

"Wow. You finished your first quest, on your first try and your first day. And without a scratch to boot. Not bad". The receptionist at the Adventurer's guild said.

"Thank you". I replied with a polite smile. She then brought out a pouch filled with coins and handed me two silver coins.

This world's currency system worked like this. Fifty copper coins is equivalent to one silver coin. And thirty silver coins is equivalent one gold.

The reward for the quest was ten copper per goblin. Now I could've brought the thirty I had killed but it was too much attention, so I opted out.

Bringing only ten, which earned me one hundred copper.

I took the coins and was about to head out when the receptionist lady called out to me.

"Alex. There's a request available for your grade. And you seem to be the type to prefer extermination quests so I saved it for you".

I turned around to her as she handed me a piece of paper.

[Wild dog Infestation: Wild dogs are terrorizing our village! If any brave adventurer could help us eliminate the threat, we would be forever grateful]

[Reward: 5 silver coins]

Hmmm. Wow. The reward is impressive. And wild dogs huh. I faced the receptionist and said.

"Thanks, I'll take it. But it'll have to be tomorrow."

The receptionist smiled and said. "A pleasure. I'll go ahead and fill out the paperwork ".

I then turned and left the guild hall.

*************

As I stepped inside the red griffin inn, I saw her again. Zahara Onyx. Who the hell is she. And what the hell does she want?

And another thing that kept coming to mind. The destruction of Erantel. Is it her? Is she the one who destroys Erantel.

If she is. Then is she part of the Shadowhand brotherhood, or is she a demon spy.

No. I find that hard to believe. If she's an [SS] rank or higher, she'd be at the level of a demon duke. And no demon duke would agree to come as a spy to a small nation like Sapin.

Then she's likely to be in the brotherhood. The Shadowhand brotherhood. Origin unknown. Objective unknown.

The only thing we do know is that in volume seven, they become active. They supported Lucas when he became the 'Emissary of Chaos'.

And they weren't the only ones. The Demon Empire, Zaun. They also had some kind of arrangement with Lucas. That's why despite Lucas running wild on the southern continent, reinforcements from the East nor west came.

The demon empire attacked them. And you're probably wondering, how in the world did the demons stop two whole continents on their own.

It's simple, sheer force. The demon empire was currently the most powerful nation in the world.

It also has the highest number of [SSS] ranks. Currently they have eight. They were the demon elders. As for the demon king. Well no one really knows how strong he is.

All we know is that he was capable of fighting Gilbert to a draw. That alone would solidify him as one of the strongest beings alive.

Anyway that's beside the point. Now why wouldn't central send help. Simple. The Shadowhand brotherhood most likely kept them away.

Who are these guys anyway. Considering that the central continent was where the big shots of humanity were, it was quite inconceivable that the Shadowhand could keep them at bay.

Uuuurh. I was feeling chills just thinking about it. An unknown group with an insane amount of military might. That's bad news.

No. I shouldn't ponder on it. I should just take my room key and go. I went to the receptionist and took my key, then headed upstairs.
