Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Hallucinations

The chamber was no longer the same. The walls seemed to pulse with a strange, organic texture, like flesh stretched over bone. The air was thick with the stench of decay, and the droning hum had intensified, now accompanied by whispers—soft, maddening voices that slithered through the air like smoke.

Marcus staggered to his feet, clutching his head. "What the... what is this?"

Sarah gasped, her eyes wide with horror as she stared at the walls. The carvings that had once depicted ancient rituals were now grotesque, shifting images of writhing, monstrous figures. They moved, their eyes following the team as they stood frozen in place.

"We need to leave," Tommy muttered, his voice trembling. "We need to get out of here now!"

But Emily was transfixed, her gaze locked on the archway. "It's not real," she murmured. "It's an illusion. This is just—"

Suddenly, the whispers grew louder, and the shadows in the corners of the chamber began to shift and move. Dark figures, barely visible in the dim light, slithered along the walls, their shapes twisted and malformed.

Sarah screamed as one of the figures lunged toward her, its elongated arms reaching out. She stumbled backward, but her foot caught on a loose rock, and she fell to the ground.

"Get back!" Marcus shouted, rushing forward to pull her to her feet.

But as he reached out, the figure vanished, dissolving into the shadows. The whispers faded, leaving behind an eerie silence.

"What the hell was that?" Marcus panted, his heart racing.

Emily's voice was shaky but determined. "It's a manifestation. The cave—it's affecting our minds. It's trying to scare us, but it's not real."

Sarah shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "It felt real."

Tommy backed toward the tunnel, his eyes wide with terror. "I'm not staying here. I'm leaving, with or without you."

Emily reached out to stop him. "Wait—"

But Tommy was already gone, disappearing into the darkness of the tunnel.
