Satisfied with his progress, Noah took a moment, stretching his aching muscles as he let out a deep breath. Yet, ten days and ten nights of relentless mental tension had begun to take their toll. His spirit, pushed to its limits, left him irritated even at the thought of more exercise.
Now, he just wanted to relax. And when it came to relaxation, Noah was not one to limit himself to conventional means.
Walking to the corner of the room, he retrieved his clothes and put them on. Grabbing his phone, he turned it on for the first time in days, ignoring the flood of missed calls that lit up the screen. After a brief pause, he dialed a number.
"Hello, Gwen? It's me," he said casually, glancing at Camilla as he spoke.
On the other end, a girl lounging on her bed perked up immediately, her voice alight with excitement. "Noah! Why are you calling me all of a sudden?"
"Oh, I've been working too hard lately and thought I'd relax a bit. Any suggestions for fun places to visit?" Noah's tone was light, almost teasing.
Gwen's laughter bubbled through the phone. To her, this was unmistakably an invitation—a date in disguise. "Are you asking me out? How about a movie? There's one I've been dying to see."
Standing nearby, Camilla's expression darkened. Just moments ago, he had been toying with her in the gym, and now he was setting up a date with another woman right in front of her. She couldn't suppress her irritation.
"Sure," Noah replied smoothly, a smirk playing on his lips. "Tomorrow evening at six. I'll pick you up at your place. Does that work?"
"Absolutely!" Gwen's voice practically sparkled with joy as she hung up, clearly elated.
Meanwhile, Camilla's simmering resentment spilled over. "So, you're skipping out tomorrow? Aren't you worried I'll escape? Or are you planning to chain me up before you go?"
Noah's response was icy and matter-of-fact. "Don't worry, I'll take you with me. But if you stray more than 200 meters from me, your head will explode in three seconds."
Camilla's mouth opened, but before she could retort, the sound of cracking tiles filled the air. In the blink of an eye, Noah blurred into motion, his speed incomprehensible. Before she could react, he was behind her, gripping the back of her neck as if she were a stray cat.
"I wasn't threatening you, Camilla. That was a warning," he said coldly, his voice carrying a weight that left no room for argument. His hand hovered over her heart, a silent reminder that ending her life was entirely within his power.
"Sparing you is already leniency, little kitty. Don't push your luck," he added, his tone sharp with dominance as he set her down gently.
Stretching once more, Noah strolled back to the corner of the gym and lay on the floor, his powerful frame finally finding a moment's respite. Exhaustion washed over him as he yawned and drifted into a deep, untroubled sleep.
Camilla, now drenched in cold sweat, stared at the cracked tiles beneath her feet. She traced the line of fractures, realizing they marked the path Noah had taken when he moved. The realization sent a chill down her spine. His speed, previously untested, was something she had grossly underestimated.
"This... this speed is far beyond Peter Parker's," she thought, her fear deepening as she recalled the mutant's previous agility.
She turned to Noah, watching his chest rise and fall in steady rhythm as he slept. Silently, she accepted the futility of escape. With a resigned sigh, she flipped off the lights, shrouding the gym in darkness to ensure his rest wasn't disturbed.
For now, she could only sit in the shadow of his growing power, her own freedom feeling more distant than ever.
