Chapter 34 - The Path of Vengeance

Shenlong descended from the cliff, his mind clearer than ever. He had endured the pain of the Nine Heavens Soul Refining Art and felt a newfound power coursing through his veins. Each step forward now felt more purposeful, each breath steadier than the last. The pendant hung around his neck, still glowing faintly, but the secrets it held were no longer as elusive.

The realization that he wasn't a true member of the Qin Clan still gnawed at him. His adoptive parents had kept this secret for years, yet they had showered him with care and love. But now, knowing the truth, the bitterness of betrayal from the elders weighed on him. They had stripped him of his honor, humiliated him before the clan, and discarded him like he was nothing. The sting of their actions was fresh, but now, Shenlong saw it all differently. Their cruelty had shaped his resolve.

The humiliation he had endured would be paid back—tenfold.

As he walked through the dense woods, thoughts of his next step occupied his mind. The Qin Clan elders were not his only concern. The mysterious Xuan Wu had left a lasting impression. There was no doubt that this man had ties to the pendant's legacy, but his motives were still unclear. Shenlong could not ignore the possibility that Xuan Wu wasn't the only one interested in him. His reawakening had surely caught the attention of other powers lurking in the shadows.

Shenlong knew he needed to be careful. Rushing into things without preparation would only get him killed. His current strength was far beyond what it had been, but compared to the ancient powers and forces he had glimpsed in the pendant's visions, he still had a long way to go.

As night fell, Shenlong found himself back near the outskirts of the Qin Clan's territory. The familiar landscape of the village lay in the distance, the towering buildings of the clan estate visible even from afar. He hadn't been here since the day of his public humiliation, but his heart was no longer weighed down by shame. Instead, a cold, calculated determination filled his chest.

"I won't be their prey anymore," he thought, his eyes narrowing.

Rather than approach the estate directly, Shenlong decided to visit someone he knew would have answers—his younger sister, Qin Yun. The bond they shared had always been strong, even after he had been labeled as 'trash.' Qin Yun had remained loyal, supporting him when everyone else had turned their backs. Shenlong had left without saying goodbye to her, but he knew he couldn't avoid her any longer.

Approaching a familiar path that led to her private courtyard, Shenlong slipped through the shadows. The pendant's energy allowed him to suppress his presence, making it almost impossible for the guards to detect him. He moved silently, like a ghost, until he reached her door.

He hesitated for a moment, his hand raised to knock. Would she welcome him after all that had happened? Or had the elders poisoned her mind as well?

Before he could make a decision, the door swung open, and standing in the doorway was Qin Yun, her eyes wide in disbelief.

"Shenlong?" she whispered, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Shenlong smiled faintly. "Yun'er, I'm back."

Tears welled up in Qin Yun's eyes, and without hesitation, she threw her arms around him, burying her face in his chest. "I thought… I thought something terrible happened to you! Why didn't you tell me where you were going?"

Shenlong gently patted her head, his heart softening at her concern. "I had to leave, Yun'er. Things were too dangerous. But I'm stronger now. I'm ready to face whatever comes next."

Qin Yun pulled back slightly, her eyes scanning his face as if trying to make sense of the changes she saw. "You… you're different," she whispered. "Your aura… it's so much stronger."

Shenlong nodded. "I've discovered a power within me. But there's still much I don't understand. That's why I need your help. The elders won't tell me the truth about my origins. I need to know what they've been hiding."

Qin Yun's expression darkened at the mention of the elders. "They've been acting strange ever since you left," she said quietly. "I overheard them talking about something… about a greater threat. They were afraid, Shenlong. Whatever they're hiding, they're terrified it will come to light."

Shenlong frowned, piecing the information together. A greater threat? Could Xuan Wu's appearance be connected to this? If the elders were scared, it meant they had far more to lose than he initially thought.

"I need you to be careful, Yun'er," Shenlong said firmly. "If they're afraid, it means they'll do whatever it takes to protect themselves. They might come after you to get to me."

Qin Yun's eyes flashed with anger. "I'm not afraid of them, Shenlong. I've always stood by you, and I'm not going to stop now. Whatever you need, I'll help you."

Shenlong felt a surge of warmth at her words, but he knew he couldn't drag her too deeply into the dangers ahead. Still, having her support was crucial. He needed someone inside the Qin Clan who could provide information.

"I need you to keep an eye on the elders," Shenlong said. "Listen to their conversations, find out who they're working with. And if anything happens, don't hesitate to contact me."

Qin Yun nodded firmly. "I'll do whatever it takes."

Satisfied, Shenlong turned to leave but paused at the door. "Yun'er," he said softly, without turning around. "Thank you. I don't know what I would have done without you."

Her voice trembled with emotion. "Just come back to me, Shenlong. Don't let them take you away again."

As Shenlong slipped back into the shadows, his mind was already racing with plans. With Qin Yun watching the elders, he would have the information he needed to dismantle their influence. But there was still one key element missing—his own strength. The Nine Heavens Soul Refining Art had pushed him to a new level, but it was only the beginning.

He needed to seek out the ancient ruins mentioned in the pendant's memories. Hidden deep in forgotten realms, these ruins held not only techniques but also powerful artifacts that could accelerate his cultivation. And somewhere within those ruins, he believed, lay the answers to his true identity.

The next morning, Shenlong set out from the outskirts of the Qin Clan's territory, venturing toward the farthest reaches of the wilderness. His destination was the Storm Abyss, a place known to be filled with dangerous demonic beasts and treacherous terrain. It was also rumored to be the location of a forgotten ruin that predated even the most ancient cultivation sects.

As he journeyed through the wilderness, Shenlong couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. This ruin was said to contain a cultivation technique far more advanced than anything in the Qin Clan's archives—a technique that could allow him to master the pendant's full potential.

The forest around him grew denser, the air thick with the energy of the wild demonic beasts lurking nearby. But Shenlong's senses were sharp, and his body moved with the grace of a seasoned warrior. The pendant pulsed steadily against his chest, as if guiding him toward his goal.

Days passed as he traveled deeper into the abyss. The air grew colder, and the vegetation became sparse, replaced by jagged rocks and steep cliffs. But Shenlong pressed on, his eyes fixed on the distant mountains where the entrance to the ruin was rumored to lie.

As he neared the base of the mountains, he felt the ground tremble beneath his feet. A roar echoed through the valley, shaking the very earth. Shenlong's hand instinctively moved to his sword, his senses on high alert.

From the shadows of the mountains emerged a creature unlike anything he had ever seen before—a massive, serpentine beast with scales as black as night and eyes that glowed with an otherworldly light. Its body coiled around the rocks, each movement sending tremors through the ground.

Shenlong's eyes narrowed as he readied himself for battle. This was no ordinary demonic beast. This was a Storm Serpent, a creature said to guard the entrance to the ancient ruins.

"This is the first trial," Shenlong thought, his heart pounding with excitement. "If I can defeat this beast, the path to the ruin will be mine."

With a deep breath, Shenlong unsheathed his sword, the blade humming with the energy of his newly refined Qi. The Storm Serpent's eyes locked onto him, its body tensing as it prepared to strike.

The battle for the ruins—and the next step in Shenlong's journey—had begun.
