Chapter 40 - The following days

[You have been awarded 5 skill points]

[You have been awarded 1000 gold]

[You have been awarded a tier 4 weapon]

Reed looked at the sword that he had just obtained.

[Enchanted sword] [Tier 4]

[Status: Perfect condition]

[Durability: Strengthened]

[Special effect 1: This item repairs itself slowly]

[Special effect 2: This item dissipates the mana that touches it]

[A sword blessed by a powerful mage, it seems to be hiding more than meets the eye]

He formed a nail from mana and touched the blade with it.

Upon contact, he lost control over the mana and the nail vanished as the mana that made it scattered.

Reed then fixed the sword onto a target and started firing spells at it to see their effectiveness.

Unsurprisingly, none of them worked, all of them shattering and dissipating into the air the moment the spells touched the sword.

Reed picked the sword up from the ground where the explosion from a fireball had knocked it and made his way back to the city.

He spent the following days making different items and runes, while continuing his experiments on magic, increasing his choices in case the need arose.

It wasn't just weaponry and armor either, he made all kinds of items.

On the first day, he achieved success in his application of gravity magic, managing to multiply and change the direction of gravity on both himself and other objects, though it did take quite a bit of mana.

On the second day, he made a bottle that could fill itself with drinking water with a little bit of mana, and with a bit of technique, could both cool and heat its contents, whatever they may be.

On the third day, he managed to make batteries to store mana in case of emergencies.

On the fourth day, he laughed out loud for ten minutes straight, holding a small, semi-circular object in his hand with a few small silvery coins lying a little distance away.

On the fifth day, he tried to manifest shadow mana in order to use shadow magic but failed for two hours and decided to divert the rest of the day towards improving his gravity magic.

On the eighth day, he made a pair of thin metallic arms, attached them to his sides, and tried to use them as an additional pair of arms by infusing them with mana. He failed quite badly, but it worked, somewhat.

On the fifteenth day, he made a fully functioning motorcycle from parts he made over the previous days, inspired by the one he had made back in his old world. However, this one was made from sturdier materials and had a booster rocket attached above its rear wheel.

On the seventeenth day, he managed to throw a spear into a wolf's side and recall it back into his hand.

On the twentieth day, Reed sat on the ground with a long, gray-colored, rectangular item placed on the ground in front of him, his hands on top, pouring his mana into it and using the strengthening skill to improve its capabilities.

On the twenty-fourth day, he experimented with something that looked like a rocket with wings, as it let out a burst of flame and flew into the sky, before shutting down and falling back as Reed looked at it with a smile on his face.

On the twenty-eighth day, he held his hand to a cage while wearing a mask, a few minutes later, the chicken inside died.

On the thirtieth day, he again attempted to use shadow magic, failed again, and tried to make a small flamethrower.

On the thirty-fifth day, he discovered that the elements conjured by magic didn't act like they did normally.

On the thirty-seventh day, he moved the extra pair of arms slowly, each carrying a small pistol as they fired at stationary targets, hitting a few shots, but missing most of them, while Reed had a massive grin on his face.

On the forty-second day, Reed slammed his book shut, having found out the relations between the magic elements, increasing his understanding and giving him an entirely new way to direct his research in magic usage.

On the forty-ninth day, Reed sat in the air, six meters above ground while eating his lunch, which was placed on a tree branch.

On the fifty-first day, a fast-moving object hit a tree and exploded into a white wave that froze everything in a five-meter radius. Reed looked at a metal ball in his hand, similar to the one he had just thrown, and smiled.

On the fifty-second day, Reed visited the adventurers guild, checked out of his room, and left the city with a caravan.

He spent three days with the caravan, traveling with them from town to town till they reached his destination.

The journey was uneventful, and quite boring, except for when they passed by a giant tree. Reed liked that tree.

'1400 hundred years old huh?' He looked at the 144-metre-tall tree. 'Quite majestic, aren't you?' He put his hand against it, feeling the rich energy inside while also looking at it using [Celestial sight].

They rested for a short while under its leaves, then continued till they reached Boltbird city, where Reed said goodbye to the caravan.

At the gate, Reed showed them his card and they let him pass without incident.

'This really is convenient.' Reed thought, looking at his card for a moment, before putting it away and asking for directions until he reached the building he was looking for.

"Gold rise..." He spoke aloud, thinking how the place didn't match the name at all.

The hotel was three stories tall and was painted brown, with only the name looking like it was made of solid gold.

Reed booked a room for himself, and told the receptionist that someone might come looking for him, if so, he told them to let them know that he was here, and to tell them to wait if he wasn't in his room at the time.

Then he went up to his room, lay on the bed, and fell asleep.
