Chapter 39 - Goblin massacre

Wearing his newly upgraded equipment, Reed stood a few dozen meters from the goblin tribe.

Wearing a helmet, chestplate, arm, and leg guards, he held the twin sabers as he prepared for a long fight.

He took a deep breath and started walking towards the goblins standing guard nearest to him.

When he emerged from the trees, they spotted him and started screeching something that the other goblins understood, as they picked up nearby weapons and gathered towards his position.

He paused, then suddenly charged towards them leaving a small mark on the ground where he pushed off.

The goblin that had alerted its kin was the first to die, Reed's blade cutting off its head while the goblin was unable to react to his speed.

Reed swung his blades through multiple goblins without skipping a beat, cutting them apart with ease as their bones and flesh separated under the influence of his super-human strength.

He had killed six of them before they reacted, screaming and waving their weapons towards him as they tried to attack. But he was too quick to be hit by them.

He dodged before they swung, and before they reacted, their neck would have been cut through, falling to the ground as Reed moved his blade towards another goblin.

Suddenly, Reed jumped backwards, dodging an arrow that flew through his previous position and into the forest.

He spared a glance at the few archers a little distance away before diving back into the fray, evading a few more arrows aimed at him.

12 seconds later, the first goblin screamed and started to run away, soon followed by the rest of its kind that were left, with all the rest having lost at least a part of their head, if not their entire skull, with few exceptions.

Reed did not give them a chance as he leapt over them all and landed in front of them as they desperately tried to stop, two of them tumbling into the legs of the others.

Before they could change direction, Reed raised his right hand as an orange glow encompassed his blade, which he swung horizontally.

A wave of fire left the blade and cut through all of the remaining goblins, charring their flesh as they screamed. The wave flew a dozen more meters before crashing into the ground and dissipating.

Then Reed turned his head to the archers, who were also running now.

Reed caught up with them in 4 seconds and deftly dealt with them.

A total of 54 goblins, all of them killed within a minute since the first death.

Reed stood looed at their corpses and then examined the blades in his hand.

'This was way easier than I thought.'

The physical enhancements from the dungeon had increased his strength beyond that of tier 4 which made him so powerful that cutting through goblins had felt like cutting through cardboard.

Their attacks were slow, and their reach was pathetic, allowing the much larger and faster human to keep his hands from getting bloodied as he slaughtered them all.

His boots were stained though, as the blood splatter hit them while he was kicking a few of them to gain some room.

Reed raised a small platform from the ground and sat on it to clean his boots, deliberating his attack on the bigger goblin tribe.

'I could do the same thing, but I don't think I would gain any experience from it.'

The goblins were far too weak to gain any valuable experience in battle from them.

'Or I could just blast them with bullets and force the mages to show their magic.'

When the mages were driven into a corner, they would almost certainly show their tricks.

'That sounds better, and I won't have to clean blood off of me as long as I keep some distance from them.'

Now decided, Reed put away his cleaned swords and summoned his shotgun.

[Shatter-stick] [Tier 4]

[Status: Perfect condition]

[Durability: Strengthened]

[Ammunition: 6339]

[Once an ordinary weapon, it has been enhanced by its user]

He had taken a bullet from the magazine, and used the strengthening skill on it over a few days to upgrade the bullet to tier 5, and replaced the magazine with a new one he made with his creation skill.

Now, the gun was much more powerful than before, when it was using weaker bullets.

He had tested it, its 15 pellets shot through three rock walls before stopping in the fourth. He could only imagine what it would do to an actual being.

Well, not anymore. Since he was going to use it on the goblins, he would see how much damage it inflicted on them.

'But before that...' He looked at the goblin huts. 'Let's see if there is anything worthwhile in here.'

He looked through them and found nothing useful or valuable.

'So much for that.'

He made his way over to the bigger goblin tribe without even trying to hide himself, shotgun in hand.

Unsurprisingly, they spotted him approaching and alerted the rest.

He waited for them to gather, walking towards them with a calm, unhurried gait.

When they started to charge him, he aimed his gun, and fired once.

The pellets tore through them with ease, shredding flesh and bone, killing at least a dozen goblins.

"Hoooo..." Reed exclaimed softly at the destruction a single shot had caused, before continuing to shoot.

It took only 13 shells to kill the entire horde that had gathered.

As Reed lowered his gun, he saw the goblin mages raise their staffs and send fireballs towards him.

'So slow.'

Reed was relaxed, but still on guard against any trump cards they might have had as he shot 3 times to kill the archers.

'Come on, show me something interesting.'

Unfortunately, it seemed like they didn't know any other spell besides fireball.

"Hmm..." Reed hummed, disappointed at their lack of ability as he raised his gun and killed one of them.

The other screamed and raised its staff to cast another fireball, only for it to dissipate as Reed blew its head off.

Reed brought up the radar and took a look at it.

'That's all of them.'

[You have destroyed a monster den!]
