Falling towards the beast, the knights had to make a decision despite their fear.
They were either going to do something or die as useless knights and betray Alaric Valohart's trust in them.
Mid-air they made their decision and unsheathed their tier 3 beast weapons, ready to slice off one of the limbs of the titan below them- or die trying.
Down below enjoying his rollercoaster ride, Devan heard the sound of a tree snapping and for a moment he was dead scared. Looking in the direction he heard it from, he noticed the first tree was destroyed, the second barely hanging on to its roots.
If so, where were the knights? They were clung on it as if their life depended on it - though it actually did.
"Die!!" He heard a yell from above.
Looking up, he could see the three knights up in the air, their swords drawn out and ready to strike the beast.
Amongst the tree, two were heading for the beast's other foreleg up in the air, while the other-
"Is he crazy, who goes for a titan's head? That's where their bloody heartcore was." Devan thought, clenching his fist and somehow hoping his seniors would at least, be able to succeed, despite their tier 3 equipment.
Coming down on the beast's head, the knight swung down hard at it. The beast had its eyes shut, bearing the pain being caused at its mid section.
As the knight drew closer, he was convinced to have taken the best decision and would finish it off before it noticed.
In a split second, the beast's eyes which were shut flung open, staring deeply into his.
His hands suddenly grew numb, fear gripping him like a vice, as he lost control of his body.
Before he knew it, the beast snapped at him, dividing and instantly killing him.
The other two swung their swords down at the same time the other knight did his, theirs aimed at its foreleg.
An inch from making contact and severing off its limb, unlike with Devan, the entire leg shifted away from their sword's reach in a split second.
Their swords sliced through the air, confused and unaware of the height they were at. With increased gravity force around the beast, they found themselves falling over towards the ground.
They saw no trees close enough to grab onto for support.
Down below was the beast's tail, and luckily they would land exactly on it if they kept at their current positioning- or so they thought.
8 feet above the tail, it suddenly turned from soft and fluffy to a hardened metal- squashing them upon impact.
Almost at its bottom as he ripped the beast open, the upper part and remains of the Knight fell right past him.
This was the last straw, he had to act quickly and destroy this thing before the other two died at its hands.
Jumping and grabbing the hilt of his sword, he stood on the beast ready to draw out his sword. Activating his boot's skill, Devan pushed himself off and the sword out of the titan's thick hide.
As fast as he could, he bolted up the beast, running up on its skin. Signed up to torture the beast, Devan kept the tip of the sword at the wound which was being hardened by the beast.
The aura around his beast weapon prevented the hardening, exposing the wound to continue bleeding out.
Devan now felt like a living nightmare to the beast. It could easily squash him like the others, but it was wary of causing damage to itself.
Finally, reaching the top, Devan stood on its shoulder, resting his elbow on the hilt of his sword, slowly piercing through the beast's hide.
He looked at the beast staring back at him with bloodshot eyes, and a growl around its snout.
Devan on the other hand held onto this sword tightly, the drawback of his beast weapon already kicking in.
The higher the tier the stronger the drawback as what he felt in his head was worse than a migraine. He felt as if his brain was pulsating like his heart, each beat coming with a sharp pain.
Nothing had ever been found to counter this drawback, after many generations had lived and died battling these beasts.
Baring his teeth through 10 minutes of the drawback, as that was the known lasting effect of it if one wasn't knocked out before that.
The beast, ignoring Devan, made a quick call to stop his bleeding as it shut its eyes and slowly hardened his wound.
Few minutes after shutting its eyes, a searing pain went through it causing it to roar out loud in agony.
"Don't just forget about me, yet!!!" Devan roared at it, drawing back his sword from the beast's bleeding eye.
Back then while in pain, he had remembered the reason climbed up to the top- to save the other knights. Opening his eyes to look around despite the pain, he sensed blood behind the beast and looked down to see its bloodstained tail.
On the ground, just below the tail were shredded parts of their bodies- instantly bringing back memories he wanted forgotten.
The drawback was far from over, yet Devan could feel the adrenaline rush through his entire being. With just that he had covered the distance, and pierced through the beast's left eye without a sound.
Until the beast was dead, he wouldn't be able to get his brother to safety. He didn't want to have such thoughts, yet he knew if this battle went on any longer, Erian would not make it.
Jumping over the beast's head, he dug the beast weapon at its open eye only for it to slide down into its skin.
For some reason, gravity was higher near its eye when it was open as Devan felt an invisible pressure around him.
The pain from the drawback began to ease off slowly, and with an added boost in strength he managed to lift up the sword.
Holding it as still as he could, the beast tried as much as it could to bring it down.
With a loud roar, it activated its gravity crush skill to forcefully bring it down.
Devan knew he wouldn't get a second chance at this and he had to act fast.
Using the remaining strength left in his leg, he jumped onto the beast's snout before the pressure brought him on his knees, his sword going straight into its narrow pupil.
The beast let out a roar louder than ever as it resounded throughout the forest, its intensity bringing down the nearby trees crashing down.
Among the tree was the one his brother was on with Shira, looking up amidst the crushing pressure, he couldn't see them on top of it.
Assuming they were already at safety for now, he concentrated on finishing off the now blind beast.
He was aware it couldn't go down on three legs, as that would make it slower with its spine vulnerable.
The wound across its midsection was not completely hardened, having lost concentration with Devan's sudden attack.
Constantly activating the boot skill it finally came through, the air pressure from below pushing against the beast's own.
On his feet again, the drawback was over with the adrenaline now fully coursing through his veins.
Pulling his sword out, it wouldn't bulge, digging deep into the bleeding eye.
Without his sword, it would be difficult to kill the beast, not impossible.
Running up to its forehead, Devan threw himself over towards its back.
Down below he could see its sliver spine, the only part of its body it couldn't harden - after all the power from the spine was already overwhelming.
Falling free, he sharpened the finger tips of his gauntlets against each other.
With the added pressure from the beast, he dug both hands through its hide and grabbed hold of the tip of its sliver spine.
The beast froze, its fear evident as it forsook all thoughts of playing safe and went berserk.
Pushing itself and its entire mass up into the air, it came down with its back towards the ground.
Ripping out half of the spine already before it jumped, Devan wrapped it around his body.
He would not be able to escape crashing into the ground, however the spine was the one thing that could save him.
Boom! The Beast crashed into the ground denting into and suddenly exploding into pieces, with only its head remaining unscathed.
