Chapter 54 - “Why would I?”

Chapter Fifty-Four

She seems relaxed. That was the first time he saw her not faking. She was usually irritated around him. She came. He had no idea why that made him giddy. He felt his stomach tighten with excitement. He was a Mafia boss for crying out loud.

'She doesn't appear angry, as she always does when I summon her.' He thought and chuckled as well. 'Why do I think I summon her? It makes it feel like she is a demon that had been resting for a long time until I mistakenly called her.'

When Asli noticed he wasn't speaking, she arched an eyebrow at him. He did not blackmail her to come, but she did. He was picking up something. Perhaps she felt the same way he did.

That was not possible, was it? Was he reading meaning into something that had no meaning? Perhaps he didn't need to blackmail her to come see him.

"I am here." She announced, and it seemed more like a question than a statement. She had been waiting there for so long that she almost assumed he hadn't noticed her, even though he was looking at her standing by the door.

Ahmet took a moment to drink her in. Was he noticing shyness on her face? Had her voice cracked?

"She doesn't know how cute she is, does she?" He didn't mean to say it out, but it appeared she heard him.

"I am not cute!" She was back in her dangerous mode, but something had changed tonight.

"Hmm. Come, have a seat." He offered while patting the seat beside him.

"No, I'm okay here." She said, masking how she was feeling.

"I know but still come. Don't tell me you are scared of me…" he quickly raised his hands as he noticed she was about to speak. "You are about to yell that you fear no one. I know that." His voice dropped to a low, husky tone as he added, "Just come over here."

She didn't challenge him. She closed the door finally and walked away from it. But she didn't sit beside him in the chair. She went to the bed.

"The bed it is," he moved toward the bed. "It happened here, right? I eased your tension and gave the pleasure you begged me to give you."

She shot him a dirty look. 'Why would you bring that up?' he read those in his eyes.

"You were under an influence and…" before he could complete his sentence, she cut him off.

"And you are likely to be the master brain behind it. Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you right now?" The fire was finally ignited in her. That, he hadn't expected.

His brows narrowed, and fury flared inside him. Her words seemed like a slap in the face. He watched her as contempt and hurt etched on his face.

Did she honestly believe he was capable of such nonsense? That he would stoop so low as to plan this? He felt his defenses rising as well. "First, give me one reason why I should and would do that. Secondly…"
