Chapter Twenty-Three
The other men left as soon as they reached outside. Markus turned and gazed at her. His expression was almost as if he was mocking her.
"What?" She snapped and a full smile broke on his face. What was his problem? She turned to walk away.
"You look fragile." He said and she halted at once. "Almost as if I should protect you."
There were days she would've killed instantly at someone for uttering those same words. Looked like this wasn't one of those days. There was something about his tone that didn't annoy her.
She continued her walk. She didn't want to deal with him now. Seeing him reminded her of the trailer she had hijacked. She had no use for it if Ahmet didn't come for it. She was giving him till the next day or she was going to burn it with everything in it.
"While I am here, I must as well pick the key and location for the trailer you took. Unless you want me to add that to your father's report." He threatened. She now knew what ran through Markus' family. Blackmailing.
"I thought you were a part of my family now. Whatever I did with the family you are betraying, should be none of your concern." She shot back and his smile only widened. What was funny?
"Well, my wife-to-be. If we marry, that would be my empire as well as yours. You didn't think your father would give you his, did you?" He joked and she flared at him. She didn't need an empire to do her business.
"Call me that again and I'll break your neck." She threatened and oh so help her God, she hadn't met anyone more annoying than he was. She admitted that though he was annoying, his reactions were genuinely weird.
"I see. We can walk back to your father's office and tell him you would rather break my neck than marry me or we can skip to the part where you stole the trailer."
"What is in it?" She asked, suddenly interested. If he wanted the trailer then it meant it was important to either him, Ahmet, or her father.
"You have the key and the location." He pointed out.
She spun around, changing direction. Her hands dug into her pocket and dialed a number.
"Hello, boss." The receiver called out.
"Bring my car." She ended the call as she walked towards the main gate while expecting her car to show up at any moment. When it did, she got in it and drove off alone.
She met the trailer just as she had left it. She opened it and saw it was filled with boxes. What would Mafia men ship illegally? The disgusting pigs. This could be filled with toys or some weird thing to feed their nasty addiction.
'Fragile toys' the words echoed back in her head. She had heard them before. Markus had said the word 'fragile' but she was sure he didn't add toys. Who said those words to her then? Nobody would dare utter s…
Ahmet… Did he call her a fragile toy earlier? How dare he? If he had meant to report her to her father, he would've done that by now. That was the only thing he could use against her and she knew he wouldn't want to give that up now.
If he thought blackmailing could tame her then he had another thing coming. If he were to release the tape of her dancing, she could deny it and let Lisa, her other identity take the fall.
'It wouldn't be a fall if I say I was practicing, would it?' She asked herself and smiled proudly at how smart she was.
She would burn this trailer tomorrow morning. It wasn't to send any message to him but she would feel good knowing Ahmet would be rolling with anger over the millions of dollars he had spent on every item in there.
She lifted the lid of the first box, and her eyes widened. She could be dreaming. She had exhausted her body well enough to be seeing things. That got to be it.
She closed the box and opened it again. The same items she saw earlier were still in the box. She wasn't seeing things. Refusing to believe, she opened another box. Her gaze froze when she realized they were the same thing. Her fingers hovered above them and a faint gasp escaped her lips.
"Goddamn it!" She exclaimed.
