Chapter 1 - How to find an elf girl

"Water bullet!"

Sfx: "Gwhwhww... bucshhh!"

I casted a simple spell to kill off the last goblin. The mayor asked me to go out and take care of this goblin fortress, because they have been expanding a lot, and are causing trouble for the hunters around here. I was quite surprised to see just how large this fortress is though. There are around 60 separate rooms, and there were hundreds of goblins here. They also have a lot of animal pens down below. I'll have to make sure the local farmers know that there are a lot of good livestock here that they can use. There were also 21 hobgoblins, 10 goblin generals, 6 goblin sorcerors, and a king goblin here. Maybe I should have came here a while ago and taken this fortress out long before they could build it up so much and grow their population so much.

"Well, they're all gone now, so let's not waste time overthinking it." I told myself.

I looked around the room, wondering if maybe any other goblins were hidden in there, since the last one I killed was. And then I heard a voice in a wooden crate.

"Are all of the goblins dead? Please don't abandon me!!!"

I looked around again, and figured out which crate the voice came from. [Why do there have to be so many crates in here? Ugh, well, I guess it is a storage room.] I thought.

"Hold on. I'm coming." I spoke loudly enough to be heard, but also tried my best to speak in a calm voice. Honeslty, I was quite worried about whoever had been trapped here.

I frantically walked over to the crate, and told myself to calm down as I use magic to summon 2 crow bars. Then I used the [drill] spell to drill a hole to put the crowbars in, and used the crowbars to break the crate open. [How did this girl get bolted inside a wooden crate? Wouldn't the goblins want her to be more easily accessible?] I was very confused about the situation.

"Hahhh! Th-th-thankyou!!!"

I saw a small elf-girl, who looked to be around 5 years old, sitting in the crate. Her voice sounded raspy, and she didn't appear to be in the best of condition. I was quite frightened, but she was clearly happy to see me. Her whole body was curled up into a fetus position, and she was covered in and surrounded by mud. She was also shivering, since it was kind of cold outside, and somehow the mud in the crate was even colder than the air was.

At first, I reached for the girl to grab my arm, but she looked very reserved about it. [I guess I'll just have to pull her out.] I reached in, and was greatly dismayed to feel how cold he was. [Poor girl. I'll make sure to warm you up as fast as I can.] I carried the girl like a baby, and rushed over to the river. It was a bit tricky, but I used wind magic to quickly jump down from the 3rd floor of the tall building we were in.

I got to the river, and gently placed the girl on the grounnd. Then I used [water bending] to quickly pull a tentacle of water out from the river. I then trasnformed the tentacle into a blade, and cut down a nearby tree with [slash], made more tenctacles with [water bending] and broke the tree into many pieces while catching them and gently placed them all in a pile in front of me. Then I used [absorption] to pull all of the water out of the tree, making it dry, and then I used [flame] to burn the wood. I made a giant bubble of water around the fire, without touching the fire, so it didn't get set out, and used [gust] to give the fire more oxygen. This caused the giant bubble to absorb the heat from the fire, and become quite hot. I used [purify] to make the hot water clean, and checked its temperature. Once it was the right temperature, I used [water bending] to make some small tentacles and clean the girl's body. I tried to not go too fast because I didn't want to burn the girl, or hurt her with the heat, or accidentally cut or bruise her with the physical force of the moving water.

While I prepared the water, the girl watched me cast all of the various spells, and her eyes lit up. However, she also started to get more tense, as if she was afraid I would hurt her.

"Don't worry! I'm not going to hurt you." I reassured her as calmly as I could, but she didn't seem to trust me.

She faced away from the water when I moved it towards her, but I didn't let that stop me from helping her. I was really worried about this girl.

As the mud came off, I realized how bony she was. [She hasn't eaten anywhere near enough food!]

[It's a good thing I always bring some bread with me.]

After quickly clearning the girl, I pulled a loaf of bread out from my bag, and used the watter to make it soggy. I then slowly approached the girl and fed the bread to her. She was still looking away from me, but when the bread touched her mouth, she faced me with a confused look.

"Can you eat this?"

She smiled warmly, but didn't really move, and didn't talk. [She must be extremely tired from all this. Ahh, it's so hard to not get stressed by all of this.]

Her arms weren't bound or anything, but she seemingly couldn't lift them, and couldn't hold herself up. I sat down next to her, and gently wrapped my right arm around her back, and under her arm pits. Then I pulled her up into a sitting position, because its pretty hard to eat food while laying down, and used my left hand to feed her. I was very glad she was at least able to swallow her food, but she didn't seem to be able to chew it or do anything else. I started to get upset, so I closed my eyes and reminisced about happier times while I fed the girl.

The girl got tired as she ate the loaf, and after eating half of it, she fell asleep. I quickly ate the other half after that. Then I picked the girl up like a baby again, and used [polygust] to fly back to town. It was only 10 miles, so it only took 20 minutes to get there while flying over the forest. I landed next to the mayor's house, and figured I should immediately report back to him.

"Hmm..."

Sfx: "Knock knock knock"

Sfx (quiet): "step step step..."

The maid, Cosmia, greeted me at the door.

"Oh no! What happened?"

Cosmia immediately noticed the girl I was carrying. She seemed to be just as worried as I was, since the fatigue and malnutrition this girl had suffered through was plainly visible.

"Yeah, the mayor asked me to take care of the goblin fortress to the west, and I found this girl there."

"You're Henry, right? Last time I checked, you're not the kind of guy to just pick up random little kids."

"Ahahaha. Cosmia, stop teasing. As you can see, she is in serious need of some help."

"Right!" Cosmia turned around. "Mr. Shalamarch! Henry is back! You need to come out immediately!!!" Cosmia turned back to me, stepped back while holding the door open, and gestured for me to come inside.

  1. this paragraph is backtracking a little bit and giving a 2nd perspective on the paragraph above; hopefully this makes sense to you
  2. i.e. thin, malnourished, underfed, or not having a lot of muscle and that; it's easy to see someone's rib bones and should bones when they are like this; the mus was covering everything before, so the narrator couldn't tell that she was malnourished
