Ivy sat anxious in the sofa, clasping and unclasping her fingers all nervous. She couldn't stop but wondered how things ended with her being in her parent house, discussing about her marriage when weeks ago she was totally against it. She was pissed off when her mother only mentioned marriage. She glanced at the man sitting beside her on the sofa, her future husband. Their gaze met, she cracked a smile and, immediately turned her head.
It wasn't an arrange marriage, nor a force one, she personally brought the man to her parents. She never intended to get married except with her dream man, who sadly couldn't be hers. She already had her life planned. She was supposed to be the most successful businesswoman in the country and retired in a small private island with tones of books she will eat up with no one disturbing her but it all change. Life had something else planned for her, something she wasn't sure to like.
Her gaze travelled to her parents sitting across them, they were mad. It was obvious by her father gloomy face and the killer eyes he was giving Alex. If eyes could kill, he was long death. Her mother wasn't left out, her always smiling face was nowhere to be found. The distance look she displayed on her face crushes Ivy heart.
Ivy pouted, 'she should be happy now that I finally agree to get married' she thought.
Yes, she understood why they had such a reaction but still, they should be a little enthusiastic. It was better than not getting married at all.
"You must be kidding me Ivy, how can you seriously think of getting married to this man!" her father said.
Finally breaking the silence reigning in the room since she announced her marriage. His voice full of resentment, no intention in him to try and hide his hates. He wanted to show how much he disapprove their decision.
"I'm not." she shook her head.
"Is he forcing you into this?" Her father asked, his voice softened.
"If he is, just tell daddy, daddy will fix it," he continued.
Ivy couldn't control her smile, like always, he was worried about her and was ready to do everything for her happiness even if it means going against someone they all knew he didn't stand against.
Karl said it in all seriousness, he didn't care if the man sitting beside his daughter was powerful enough to ruin him. The only thing that matter to him was his daughter happiness.
"Is all my decision dad," Ivy said with a little smile on her face.
Her father words touched her. While other parents would be ready to sell their daughter off for money and power, he, on the contrary was ready to start a war. This marriage could bring their company to another level but he regarded it as nothing.
Karl turned furious to Alex, a deep frown on his face.
"And you? How can you accept such a stupidity? I get it she is young and prompt to make unreasonable decision but you are older, how can you agree to such a rubbish!!" he didn't keep his voice low and expressed all his emotions.
Karl look at his friend who just announced he was going to marry his daughter. He saw her grow up from a child to the woman she was today, how could he really think of such a thing. He could be her father. For God sake, he had a son of the same age as her!
Ivy looked at Alex, he had his always serene expression on his face as if nothing in this world could affect him. As if nothing going on concerned him in anyway.
"I get it that you are angry," Alex began.
His smooth, soft but imposing voice resonate in her ears. She had to admit, she was affected by his voice. It was so sweet to her ears, like a melody.
"But Ivy told you earlier, it has nothing to do with love. We both gain benefit from this arrangement, which is why we are here,"
Karl clenched his teeth "and what are your reasons?" he asked.
He was trying hard to control himself, he wanted to punch the man and bring him to his place but he knew better.
It would be foolish of him to react without understanding what was going on and Alex wasn't just anyone. He was the ceo of one the biggest company in the country. He wasn't someone to have as enemy but if it was for his daughter's sake, he was ready to go against him, against God himself if it was needed.
"Private. I'm here because she insisted. To me all this is useless. The marriage is already set," he said, his lips lifted up.
This meeting was useless to him, the only thing he wanted was to get married to their daughter and their permission wasn't required. It was due to Ivy insistence, if not, they would have gotten married without their knowledge.
PRIVATE!! The word resonated in Ivy's ears. It was the same thing he answered when she asked what his reason to marry her was. She had her reason and she wondered what his could be, for a man of his status to wish to marry her.
She became anxious, may be it wasn't the right thing to do. What if it was a sort of revenge or something but why would he? There were no reason for it. She clenched her fist, remembering why she was doing it.
He was the perfect candidate, he had everything she wanted and even more. She won't let this chance slip. She was doing it, she was getting married!!
