Chapter 111 - Cacophony

Lem's simulated self would have keeled over and thrown up if he had been given the time to collapse, but the martial elder maintained a firm grip on his body. "Bastard sloth," he barked angrily.

The words seemed like they were floating through Lem's ears. His simulated self could vaguely hear them. His eyes were still adjusting and could not even see the sloth.

As he was collecting himself, he was jolted from his feet and he became airborne again. The world whizzed by his body in a surreal blur.

His feet touched hard ground.

He was jolted from his feet.

His feet touched the ground.

Even though he was being given disorienting feedback from his body, Lem could separate out the confusing aspects and understand roughly what was happening.

The tyrant sloth was attacking in wild charges that leveled huge swathes of the forest. Master Brightflame was dodging the charges while carrying his simulated self to keep him safe.

"Stop," the martial elder called out.

Once again, Lem's simulated self felt as though the words were floating through his head. He was jolted and taken airborne, before his feet landed on the ground.

This time, he was no longer being held. His body swam through the air before his face collided with the ground.

Oof!

He could feel the hard, cold contact of a solid layer of dirt and leaves pressed up against his face and digging into his mouth and nose. For a moment, Lem's simulated self still did not know what was happening.

Everything had come too suddenly for him to understand.

A moment later, he attempted to lift his head.

The sounds of falling trees filled his ears with a cacophony of sounds.

His sense of balance was confused, and he accidentally drove his head back into the ground.

Ooof!

His stomach began expelling its contents up his throat, and he vomited directly into the ground, and into his face.

[After carrying you with him for a few disorienting seconds, the martial elder finally lets go of you, depositing you in a relatively safe area away from the battlefield. You fall to the ground and throw up as you attempt to regain your wits.]

"Stop!"

The sound seemed magnified in Lem's ears as the world suddenly came into focus and began to settle.

He lifted his head from the ground again.

In the distance, he could see warm sunlight bathing large sections of the forest, where the trees had all been toppled. A bit farther away, he saw the tyrant sloth running on all fours. The small figure of the martial elder seemed to pop in and out of existence.

It seemed absurd when he compared his own fights to what he was witnessing.

For a moment, Lem's simulated self felt a wet sensation on his face, before he scrambled to wipe everything off with his sleeve.

He blinked a few times.

"Stop," Master Brightflame called again.

Lem could not see the expression on the martial elder's face, but he could hear the impatience in his voice.

Then, the tone of the battle shifted.

The tyrant sloth ran forward but the martial elder did not move out of the way.

Lem saw from afar the lumbering figure swing its massive arm, before being rebounded backwards. The colossal form smashed through a few trees before it landed on its feet again.

ARAAAAAAAAAA!
