Chapter 23 - Seventh Simulation

Lem did not waste time. He practiced the [Nine Bull Fist] while the simulation recharged.

Punch! Punch! Punch!

After he grew tired, he checked the screen.

[Name: Lem]

[Age: 15]

[Cultivation: None]

[Techniques: Nine Bull Fist (entry)]

[Energy: 0]

[Simulation: 30%]

Lem sat down and began to wait.

He noticed that with the improvements to his mind, he felt as though he could keep track of exactly how much time was passing.

After he had judged that it had been a little less than an hour, he opened the screen again.

[Simulation: 97%]...[Simulation: 98%]...

[Simulation: 100%]

[Detecting Karma is small enough to extract energy from the environment. Run Simulation?]

Wait until the next day. Travel north until you reach the mushrooms, and then travel north-west.

Search for signs of immortals.

Yes, he thought.

The breeze passed over him.

[+1 Energy]

[Starting simulation…]

[-1 Energy] [-100% Simulation]

[Simulation begins.]

Lem sank into the ethereal state.

[Day 1: You are abandoned in Lang Woods, waiting in place. You decide to wait for the next day before you travel…

While you wait, you practice the [Nine Bull Fist] intermittently…]

Lem observed the changes in his body.

In theory, with every punch, he should be able to produce the power of nine bulls, hence the name of the martial art.

However, even though he had long memorized all of the forms for the punch, he had yet to understand where the power came from.

It was a complicated mess of minute details.

In the village, there were few who could claim to be proficient in the technique, and none who were masters.

It was no surprise, as the very task of coordinating all of the movements together was akin to juggling a dozen objects at the same time.

However, Lem had two significant advantages over others.

First, if he could survive for long enough, eventually his ability to simulate would allow him to gain the experience of many lifetimes.

With enough practice, even the village idiot could one day become a master.

Second, in the short term, he had an entire mind that was idle whenever he practiced in the simulation.

Others could not perform the moves while also intently focusing on the intricacies of the whole.

However, Lem could do just that!

He could casually observe while his simulated self did the hard work.

All of the same muscle signals were still being received by his mind without the exertion of producing them.

Lem continued to watch his simulated self practice.

He had yet to have any meaningful insights across the simulations, but at least he was growing more familiar with the forms of the [Nine Bull Fist].

All of a sudden, he heard a noise.

Lem's simulated self quickly stopped practicing and picked up his spear.

[The bushes rustle and you grip your spear as you prepare to deal with the threat.]
