Mikasa's POV
My name is Mikasa Ackerman. I'm 12 years old.
In the year 844, my life changed forever. Underground kidnappers came for us—men who sought to sell me and my mother, Asian-blooded, to the dark corners of the world as slaves.
The plan didn't go as they intended, though. My parents were murdered that day, and I was taken. When all hope seemed lost, when I thought my end was near, there he was. Eren Yeager. A boy who risked his life to save mine.
He gave me shelter when I had no place to call home. He comforted me when I had no shoulder to cry on. From that day forward, I swore never to leave his side.
Wherever he went, I followed, always. Even when he slept, I would sit nearby, watching over him. My heart refused to be anywhere else, and I didn't understand why. I just couldn't look away from him.
Mom—Carla—whenever she caught me hovering around Eren, would simply smile, as if she understood something I couldn't yet grasp.
Eren and I often played outside together, along with his friend Armin, a blonde boy with a kind heart. Armin wasn't like the others. He was gentle, full of stories about the world beyond the walls. Eren would listen, his eyes lighting up whenever Armin spoke of the outside world.
Water that glows like fire.
Fields of ice.
Giant rocks that took days to climb.
And the sea—vast, endless, stretching beyond the horizon.
That's what Armin said existed out there. Eren believed him with all his heart, and I believed in Eren. He would make that dream a reality, not just for Armin, but for himself too.
There were times when Eren acted distant, cold even. But other times... other times he was kind, unexpectedly so. He cared for me in ways he probably didn't realize. No matter how much he tried to push people away, he could never quite push me.
I still remember the day we met, though some parts of it are blurry, like a distant dream. It feels like fate, cruel and yet inescapable, brought us together that day—at the cost of my parents' lives.
The memory is foggy, but the emotions are sharp. I can still see his face, the way he looked at me after it was all over...
I guess it went something like this...
Year 844
In a Deep Forest of Wall Maria
[Increase in heart beat detected.]
The system's voice echoed in Eren's mind as he tightened his grip on the dagger, the leather-wrapped handle creaking before snapping under his force.
His breath came out in ragged bursts, each exhale visible in the freezing air as fog drifted from his lips. His heart raced, the cold biting into his skin, but he remained focused, slipping through the doorway of the dimly lit wooden cabin like a shadow. The dark interior smelled of damp wood and sweat, the only warmth coming from a dying fire at the far end.
Eren's sharp green eyes, framed by the black circles under them, zeroed in on the remaining eight kidnappers. They sat around, grinning as they whispered about the prize they had in their possession—Mikasa. Two men already lay lifeless outside, their blood staining the snowless ground, the result of Eren's swift, silent ambush.
Inside, the air was heavy with greed. The men guarded Mikasa like she was a treasure chest, unaware that they were mere minutes away from ruin. The fact that she bore both the cursed Ackerman bloodline and the rare heritage of the Asian clan made her valuable—prized for her potential and rarity. In the criminal underworld, she could be sold for a fortune, a ransom that would line their pockets for life.
Eren hiding in the storage room, his breath fogging his vision as he listened to their muttered conversation. His pulse drummed loudly in his ears, but he forced it down, keeping his mind sharp. His father, Grisha, had already rushed to summon the Military Police, but Eren knew better. The MPs would arrive too late—
Eren took a deep breath, steadying his nerves as the cold air filled his lungs. His hand moved with purpose, fingers twitching as he called out in a low whisper.
"Open inventory."
A soft ding echoed in his mind, and a bright blue screen flickered to life before him, illuminating his stern features with a cold, eerie glow. The screen listed his available items: daggers, swords, ODM gear—something he had stolen from the equipment center, still untouched—and a variety of potions. The shimmer of the display momentarily brightened the darkened cabin, casting long shadows on the walls.
Without hesitation, the dagger in his grip vanished, dissolving into thin air. In its place, a more sinister weapon materialized—his first creation, a poisoned dagger with a scarlet handle. Its blade gleamed faintly in the dim light, the deadly toxin coating it almost invisible to the eye. He had crafted this weapon himself two years ago, and tonight, it would taste blood once more.
[Minor injury detected. Would you like to use a health potion?]
The system's calm voice broke the silence in his head as another notification blinked into view. Eren glanced briefly at the message. His side throbbed where one of the guards had landed a lucky blow earlier, a shallow cut barely stinging now in the cold.
"Decline..." he muttered, dismissing the notification. The pain was a reminder—one he could handle. The message vanished, and his focus snapped back to the task at hand.
"View stats..." Eren muttered under his breath.
In an instant, the glowing blue interface shifted, revealing his status screen.

Eren's green eyes flicked through the stats as his hand tightened around the poisoned dagger. The system always kept him informed, but the cold reality of what he was about to do weighed heavier than any stat screen could show.
He shifted his gaze toward the keyhole, peering into the room beyond. Mikasa lay there, curled on the wooden floor, her frail body bound in ropes. Blood trickled from her split lip, her deadened eyes staring blankly at nothing. Her breaths were shallow, fogging in the cold air of the cabin.
"Honestly, I could've just waited for Dad..." Eren whispered, though he knew that would have been foolish. The MPs wouldn't arrive in time, and Mikasa's fate—along with his own—was tied to what he did in the next few moments.

Another notification flashed before his eyes, catching his attention.

"Right..." Eren muttered, exasperation filling his voice. His hand hovered above the cold iron door handle, the icy chill biting into his skin. The sensation sent shivers up his arm, though the fear and adrenaline pumping through his veins kept him steady.
He had already killed two men that night—the first lives he had ever taken. The weight of it clung to him like a heavy cloak, but his mind repeated the mantra that had driven him this far: kill or be killed.
The reality of it settled in his chest, but he didn't let it slow him down. If he hesitated for even a second, it wouldn't be just their blood on the floor.
[Regulating body temperature]
With a deep breath, Eren turned the door knob, the creaking sound echoing ominously in the cabin. As he stepped into the room, the kidnappers froze, their eyes widening in disbelief.
"Uh!" They gasped in unison, their shock palpable. In that moment, Eren looked like a ghost, the dim light accentuating his pale face framed by a dark scarf, his eyes fierce and unyielding.
"A kid?" one of them muttered incredulously, but the moment of confusion was fleeting. Anger flickered across the face of the tallest thug as he stepped forward, brandishing his weapon. "Oi... you brat, what the heck are you doing here?!"
"Nothing special..." Eren replied coolly, a dagger materializing behind his back, hidden from view.
[Skill Enabled: Weapon Mastery]
In a blink, he threw it, the blade slicing through the air like a whisper. It struck the man in the head, burying itself deep in his skull.
"Ugh..." The man's eyes widened, a look of shock frozen on his face as blood cascaded down his forehead, his body crumpling to the floor.
"What the hell?!" one of the remaining kidnappers shouted, scrambling to grab his axe. Two others rushed for their muskets, but instead of retreating, Eren advanced, pulling his dagger from the fallen man's head. Now armed with two blades, he stood poised for the next assault.
"Sorry... I don't have enough time," Eren said, his voice low and deadly. "So just die, you shitrags." The words sent a chill down their spines.
"You damn bastard!" one of them shrieked, fear breaking through his bravado as he fired a shot at Eren. "Eh?" he gasped, eyes wide as Eren closed the distance in an instant, his dagger now drenched in crimson.
"What...?" the kidnapper whispered, but his words were cut off as Eren decapitated him in one swift motion, blood spraying across the room.
The remaining kidnappers backed away, huddling together, terror etched on their faces. Mikasa, still lying on the cold wooden floor, watched in silence, her breath quickening as she realized the danger was far from over.
"What the heck are you...?" the leader stammered, confusion and fear merging in his eyes.
"Don't know..." Eren murmured, his focus unwavering as he advanced mercilessly.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out.
[Incoming strike detected.]
The system's voice filled Eren's mind, taking over for a split second. With a swift bend to the left, he dodged the bullet just in time. He loathed that feeling, being controlled like a puppet, especially in the heat of battle.
"Tch..." Eren scoffed, anger boiling beneath the surface, shocking the remaining kidnappers.
"You two, get him! Quick! Kill him!" the leader barked, desperation creeping into his voice.
Eren rolled his eyes, unfazed. "What a hassle..." he whispered as he ducked, narrowly avoiding the swing of an axe that whistled through the air, missing him by mere centimeters. He retaliated, driving his dagger into the attacker's foot, pinning him to the floor.
"There..." Eren muttered, his gaze narrowing, fixed on the descending axe that had missed its target. With a quick move, he caught the blade, spinning it around to strike at the shoulder of the second kidnapper. Blood erupted from the wound as the man howled in agony, collapsing within seconds.
Without a moment's pause, Eren retracted the axe and hurled his dagger at the last standing attacker, the blade piercing through the chin and emerging from the top of his skull, brain matter splattering against the walls.
"The hell are you doing? He's just a kid! Kill him!!!" the leader screamed, panic gripping his voice as he pushed the remaining two forward. But before he could finish his sentence, Eren locked eyes with him, his expression cold and unyielding.
In a single, fluid motion, Eren shot the axe directly at the leader. "Uhhhhh..." The man's eyes widened in horror as the axe embedded itself in his forehead, blood spraying like a gruesome halo as he fell, leaving only three men behind.
"Please! I beg you! Don't kill me! It wasn't my—" one of them pleaded, bowing in a desperate attempt to save his life.
[Skill Enabled: Beginner Throwable]
"Shut up and die already..." Eren interrupted coldly, a steely resolve settling over him. Without a moment's hesitation, he flung three shurikens—one for each remaining kidnapper—ending their lives in a flash.
"What a pain..." Eren muttered, turning his gaze toward the misty windowpane, his clothes now soaked in crimson, blood splattering his face in jagged patches. Faint light filtered through the glass, illuminating his determined features amidst the chaos of the cabin.
