"Why do you seem so excited?" Maryann asked, looking at me as if I've grown two heads
"Guess?"
"I really don't know what will really be making you excited when you're suffering in this hell hole" she smirked at me, folding her arms. "Seeing Mrs Callamore in this house irks me because she's so insufferable"
"Like mother like son, yeah?" I laughed.
"Tell me about it" She groaned.
"Anyway, I think I might suffer less" I smiled widely
"Why do you say so? You're carrying the Don's child?" Maryann smiling happily.
"We can't even stand each other's presence not to talk of doing the unthinkable. Puh-lis" I rolled my eyes
"You may never know" She wiggled her eyes brows
"Eew. God forbid." I said, shrieking at the thought of me being pregnant for him. "I rather die in my father's hands from hatred than let that man impregnate me"
"That's hard" Maryann laughed lightly
"I'll have a discussion with him. I need to know what I'll do to get out of this mess" I sighed
"You're marked. It's deeper than the word you hear. You're literally theirs and cannot be returned except they decide to give you out or let you go" Maryann said, giving me a pitiful look. I hated that look
"Good. Now, I want them to let me go" I said, dusting the chair
"I don't think that day will ever come" She scoffed, helping me out by cleaning the other chair
"Stop being optimistic" I flapped the rag at her.
"Okay, fine. I hope you meet a tantalizing young man that'll take you round the world and give you good body massage" She said.
"Now that sounds sarcastic" I shook my head. "Anyway, I heard that the Don's fiancee is coming over"
"Fiancee?" Maryann scoffed. "More like forced partners. They never last. The earlier Mrs Callamore understands that her son is an 'alien' the better for her and the Callamore Empire" She said, whispering at the part she said 'alien'
"I know this one. She's a nice girl" I smiled, placing everything I moved back to their spot
"You think?" Maryann smirked
"I know her. Okay, she was my best friend in high school until she moved to another city with her family. Though she was older than me and was in a higher class" I smiled, excitement running through my vein.
"Who's this person?" She asked.
"Vivian Dolce"
"Vivian... You dont want to know what she's like" Maryann shook her head. "They've been trying to force him into marrying her for 3 years now. In fact, I don't really understand their relationship because it seems like she's the only one he can tolerate"
"That makes my life less stressful. Maybe he can finally see that I'm a human" I groaned.
"Let's get out of here before we -"
"Have you maids arranged my daughter in laws room?" Mrs Callamore said, inspecting everywhere.
"Yes ma" we said in unison
"She's on her way." she smiled at us. Weird. "Get out of my sight" she said, her smile turning into a frown.
"Yes ma." We both bowed before taking her leave
"You, the new slave" Mrs Callamore yelled. I wanted to keep walking because that's not how to address a person but I don't have want anything to spoil my mood while I wait for my friend.
"Yes ma" I said, turning to face her
"You better not ruin anything for them. And don't ever think you have a chance with him or her" She warned.
You'll be shocked when my best friend comes
"Understood" I nodded
"Now, get out of my sight" She shooed me away.
***_****_****_****
"She's here! She's here!" I squealed, holding Ann as I jumped up and down.
"I hope this happiness stays on your face. I'm telling you that she's not the same person you knew" Maryann warned
"Nonsense!" I shook my head.
"Oh my daughter!" Mrs Callamore opened her arms, walking towards the lady. I couldn't quite see her face because she was still on glasses.
"Good day, mother" The lady said, embracing her.
"Romano! Come over here!" Mrs Callamore yelled, looking up the stairs in anticipation for her dear son
"Looks familiar?" Maryann whispered
"I can't quite get the face since she's on glasses" I whispered back
"Go get my son" She pointed at me
"Okay ma" I nodded
"That's our new slave. Don't hesitate to treat her anyhow you want okay? She's paying for her father's greed" I heard, Mrs Callamore tell the lady
She'll stop at nothing to spoil my name.
I don't even know why I wasn't told earlier about father's debt so that I could've started saving or something.
Laugh my ass out. Funny.
"Why are you laughing?" Someone asked
"It's funny how I think I could've been able to pay off my father's debt by working. I'd be dead by now. It's not like I'm not going to die soon in this house anyway" I laughed, shaking my head. "Please where's the Don"
"Right here" He said making me raise my head up slowly. Why was my head down initially, I was avoiding anyone from seeing my teary eyes. "Did something get into your eyes?" He said, holding my face up
I began to feel hot and quite uncomfortable at the feeling I was getting from the way he touched me.
"N-no, Sir" I said, removing my face from his hand.
"Then why are your eyes red?" He said, holding up my face again. This time, his grip on my chin was strong.
"Something got into it when I was walking up the stairs" I said, avoiding his eyes.
"Are you sure you don't smoke?" He asked, frowning.
"Me?" I frowned, swatting his hand away from my chin. "That's all you could come up with?" I scoffed
"Did you just talk back at me?" He sneered dangerously, causing fear to grip me but I wasn't going to show it.
"No, Sir. But of all things, you actually thought I smoked? That's very funny" I shook my head.
"So are you calling me a liar?" He asked, holding my arm
"I.. I didn't call you that!" I said, almost yelling at his arrogant attitude. "Do I reek of cigaret?"
"Who knows if you've washed it off" He scoffed, squeezing my arm
"You're unbelievable!" I groaned at both the pain and the fact that I was frustrated.
"What's going on here?" A lady yelled. "I told you to get my son and you were here doing ...what do I even call this?"
"I tried calling him, ma" I said, pushing Romano's hand away but it was fruitless
"No you didn't. You came here to display your naughty attitude" Romano sneered, refusing to let my hand go despite my continuous struggle.
"I knew I made a mistake sending you" Mrs Callamore groaned. "Let the slave go, son. Come see Vivian. She's so beautiful"
"I'm busy." Romano said, letting me go.
"No, you're not." His mother, held his hand and dragged him down the stairs. I quietly followed them down the stairs, still annoyed at the fact that he referred to me as a smoker. I can't even smoke to save my life.
Indeed, he lacks emotion. He couldn't ask if I was crying? Instead he asked if I was smoking!!! Oh my goodness!
"Hi, Fianceé to be" The lady, Mrs Callamore referred to as Vivian said. I was just waiting for her to remove her glasses so I can confirm my suspicions.
"Vivian" Romano greeted, shaking her hand
"Don't be like that" Mrs Callamore, slapped her son's chest. "Greet her properly. Can't you see how beautiful she looks?"
"No, I can't." He said pointedly, making my eyes go wide. I could've snickered but I wasn't going to attract trouble to myself.
"Remove your glasses so he can see your beauty, my daughter" Mrs Callamore said to Vivian
Finally!
I was smiling at Maryann who jokingly rolled her eyes.
"You like what you see?" Vivian said, removing her glasses
It's really her!!
"Vivian?" I smiled, calling her out. She turned to look at me but that was just it.
"Who are you?" She asked, eyeing me up and down
"It's me. Jadelyn Thompson. Your best friend in high school!" I smiled brightly
"Funny girl" Mrs Callamore laughed at me. "Do you know her, daughter?"
"No, I don't. Why would I know a slave?"
What?
