After Seraphina and I got married, her parents wanted to talk to me privately. I wasn't a coward so I held my head high and followed them.
I had gotten my title back, so I was making a name for myself as Prince Nicholas Henry. I wasn't banished here, but I knew this meeting with Seraphina's parents wasn't going to be easy.
The King and Queen had reluctantly approved of our marriage even though they were against it at first. I wasn't sure what Seraphina said to get them to change their minds, but I was glad that she said something, even though gaining their approval didn't mean trust.
"Prince Nicholas," King Elowen began, his voice filled with authority. "Now that you're part of this family, you'll understand that our expectations are non-negotiable."
Queen Elowen started to say. "Seraphina has always been the light of our lives. We will not tolerate anything—or anyone—that doesn't treat her right. Do you understand?"
