I tightened my grip on the reins as the castle came into view, the familiar sight stirring a mix of dread in me.
Returning to Rivendale wasn't something I'd ever imagined doing after my banishment. It wasn't a place for me anymore—by law and by choice. But I couldn't stay away, not after hearing what my parents were trying to do. They were meddling in things they shouldn't, and it had to stop.
As I approached the gates, the guards immediately spotted me. Their shouts sounded through the air, and within moments, they surrounded me.
"Prince Nicholas," one of them said, his tone hard and unyielding. "You are not welcome here. Surrender now, or we'll be forced to arrest you."
I raised my hands slowly, showing I had no weapons. "I'm not here to cause trouble," I said, keeping my voice calm. "I just need to speak with the court."
