(Nicholas)
I sat by the window, staring out at the trees, my mind filled with different thoughts. Seraphina had stayed with me, her words and her presence remaining longer than I expected.
She said she would visit, and I didn't know why, but I believed her. I'd been alone here that the idea of someone coming to see me just to talk felt foreign.
When I heard a knock at the door, my heart skipped. I stood quickly, almost knocking over the chair behind me. Opening the door, I saw her standing there, her guards standing behind her. She smiled softly, holding a small basket in her hands.
"I hope I'm not intruding," she said. "I thought you might like some company."
I stepped aside, letting her in. "You're not intruding."
She placed the basket on the table, revealing bread, fruit, and a jar of preserves. "I thought these might be nice to share," she explained.
"Thank you," I replied, unsure of what else to say.
