The following morning I adjusted my cloak as I stepped out into the crisp air of Cyrathis. The marketplace was lively, as it always was on this day of the week.
Stalls lined the narrow streets, each vendor loudly advertising their goods. The scents of baked bread and roasted meats mingled with the faint aroma of flowers from a nearby stand.
It was a welcome distraction from my thoughts after reading my parents' letter yesterday.
Writing back had only stirred up more emotions. Now, I needed to clear my head. Picking up a few things for the cabin was the perfect excuse to get out.
The market buzzed with activity, but no one paid much attention. Most people here didn't know who I was, and I preferred it that way.
I moved through the crowd, stopping to inspect a basket of apples. The vendor smiled and handed me one to sample. I nodded in thanks, biting into the crisp fruit before paying for a small bag.
