I didn't pause to collect my thoughts or give Gerard another word. My feet moved on their own, carrying me down the corridors.
Every step felt like an eternity, every heartbeat thundering in my chest a reminder of how close I'd come to losing him. The faint glow of sconces on the walls blurred as tears welled in my eyes, but I didn't care. All that mattered was getting to him.
As I approached the medical wing, two guards stationed at the door stepped aside with bows. They didn't need to announce my arrival; my desperation must have been clear. I pushed the door open, my breath hitching as I stepped inside.
There he was.
Kieran lay in the bed, his face pale eyes clear and alert. His gaze met mine instantly, and at that moment, the weight crushing my chest lifted. He was alive. He was okay.
"Isabella," he whispered, his voice hoarse. A weak smile tugged at his lips, and it was all I needed to see.
