I sat across from Gerard, the faint sound of footsteps echoing outside the room as guards moved through the palace. My mind raced, playing and replaying Marcus's words in my head.
They said it had to look like an accident. My fingers gripped the edge of the table so tightly it hurt, but I didn't care. Someone had tried to kill me, and they had almost taken Kieran instead. That alone filled me with enough rage to keep me going.
Gerard was scanning through reports, his brow furrowed. "We need to narrow this down," he said, his voice low. "Whoever planned this wasn't acting alone. Someone gave them access, Princess."
I shook my head, frustrated. "But who? There are dozens of staff members, guards, and visitors in the palace every day. It could be anyone."
"Not anyone," he corrected, tapping the table with his finger. "Someone who knows your routine. Someone who had the opportunity to observe and plan."
