The following morning, I got ready to greet my parents. They were back from their trip and had been briefed on my divorce with Isabella. They don't care enough about what goes on in my life, and that's how I like it.
They don't even live at the castle anymore. Dad decided that ever since I turned eighteen, the castle would be mine to do as I pleased.
I gave Elara a quick kiss and made my way outside, watching as the guards moved into formation. They stood at attention, eyes fixed forward, each one well-trained to hold his position without flinching. My parents' car arrived at the gates, its sleek black exterior gleaming in the morning light as it rolled up the drive.
I took a deep breath, steadying myself. Seeing my parents was rarely an event that stirred up any real emotion. They were figures in my life, not much more.
