Chapter 10 - A bird's eye view II

"I thought that you were on a mission?" Shisui gasps out, propping his body against a tree. He's covered all over with cuts and bruises all over his body. Signs of a fight all around them and blood comes out where his right eye should be, now only an empty eye socket.

"Something didn't feel right, so I came back." He replies, bandaging some of his wounds to prevent him from bleeding out. This amount of blood… It's not unsalvageable.

"Glad you did." Shisui smiles bitterly. "Man, guess Akari is luckier than I am, huh? I got the big boss himself after me! I don't know if I should be honored or not." Shisui tries to stand up, but almost immediately falls back down, with Itachi holding him up to keep him from face-planting into the dirt. "Sorry for the trouble." He wheezes out.

Itachi doesn't bother to reply, busy applying pressure and utilizing all his meager talent in healing, but the blood just doesn't stop flowing no matter what he does.

"ROOT is involved. Unfortunately, it seems like there's no way to stop the Uchiha's coup." He stands up, waves off Itachi's hand and walks towards a cliff. "If civil war breaks out in Konohagakure, the neighboring countries will grasp this weakness and invade. I was planning on using Kotoamatsukami to stop the coup, but I had no choice but to hide my right eye before Danzo took it."

He quickly grabs Shisui's arm, stopping him in his tracks. "Then we need to get Akari here! She's an exceptional Medic-nin, she can definitely restore your eye if you hid it somewhere!"

Shisui laughs hollowly. "Nah, that can't happen. They probably will come after my left eye too, and we aren't strong enough, not even close. I put my right eye in a sealed medical container, when the time comes, I'm sure someone will have a use for it." He then claws out his remaining eye while Itachi can only watch on in horror.

"Shisui…"

He hands his eye to Itachi. "You really are the only friend I can trust. Protect the village, and the Uchiha name as well." He turns away after Itachi takes his eye on reflex, and starts to walk towards the cliff.

"That isn't the only thing I'm going to give you, I'm going to grant you a new power as well." Shisui calmly says, like he's not casually announcing his death. "I'm not going to last long anyway, take it as a gift."

His own face scrunches up, barely managing to hold back tears. He can't help but think that the sunset and silent atmosphere, accompanied with the sound of the Naka river tides make this situation even more tragic.

Shisui smirks at him. "What's with that look of yours? Even like this, I can still see your face easily, you know?" He put one of his hands on Itachi's shoulders, seemingly making them so, so much heavier. "A worried expression doesn't suit you, friend. I'm sure you can go through this, even if you may be forced to walk a long and dark path, one that's filled with pain and suffering."

"I'll carry on your will for the Uchiha and Konohagakure." He replies solemnly. There's no point in trying to change an Uchiha's mind once it's made up, and all he can do is respect the decision Shisui made now.

Shisui steps forward, two more steps until his fall from grace. "I guess this is the end of the road for me. In the end, I am sorry that I will not be by your side when you need it the most. You were planning to purge the Uchiha clan, weren't you?"

He scrambles back, eyes widening in shock. Shisui seems to sense his actions and laughs. A genuine smile then appears on his bloody face. "Hey, promise me this. If Akari survives the purge, would you go easy on her if you meet her again after?"

"Why her, specifically?" Even in this sorry state, he can't help but voice out his questions. "Instead of your family, why her?

"Her and I, we come from the same place, you know? From the language she talks, the slight accent she can't hide, and the songs she sings. We were born in a much better world than this one. I hope with my death, I can at least do her a favor and make this world less shitty for my kind to live in." Shisui smiles, it has a bittersweet feeling to it.

"Your…kind?" Itachi asks.

"No spoilers!" He cheekily grins. His smile falters immediately as he takes one more step forward. "Well Itachi, the time has come. Make a new way for yourself, with your own two hands. If it's you, you can do it. I know you can."

His hands tighten, his knuckles becoming whiter than ever. "See you, friend. I leave the rest… to you."

He takes one step forward.

A new Mangekyou sharingan user is born, watching the previous one die.

Hands trembling, Itachi sees Uchiha Akari walking blindly in the dark. He already killed so many clan members, all these people he spent so much time with. He killed his parents and planted the seed of revenge in his little brothe- Sasuke. He long lost the right to call him a little brother by now.

He waits for her to eventually grasp the situation she's in. It may seem needlessly cruel, but he wants Akari to at least know a portion of the truth before killing her, and he wants her to know who stabbed her in the back.

He watches as she steps on a puddle of blood, finally turning on her sharingan. Her breath immediately catches and her body completely stills, her expression bewildered.

It's strange, really. She is also hailed as a prodigy, but in the end, she will probably go down without a fight just like the rest of the clan. He grips his sword tightly, and silently sticks it through where her heart should be. He sees her fall sideways to the ground and looks her in the eye. He owes her that much for her valiant efforts in trying to lessen the tension between the clan and the village, even though it wasn't effective in the end.

He sees the understanding in her eyes, and the defiance still shining brightly. Even in dire straits, she struggles to accomplish a futile task.

In the end, for all the faith Shisui had in her, Akari isn't able to survive. He walks away, not willing to look at the dead bodies of his kin, his family, any longer. Finally, his mission is complete.

He notices her lips moving in the corner of his eye, mouthing out a word before her eyes close and her breathing stops, as another puddle of blood forms underneath her.

He hears some commotion and senses multiple ANBU squads arriving, finally deciding to depart. But not before searing the image of Akari Uchiha's dead body in his mind with the sharingan. She deserves to be remembered by someone, no matter how unworthy the person may be.

He only hopes that one day, he will be punished for his crimes against his blood.
