The air was peaceful, the kind of peace that felt foreign after the endless years of war. Nathan and Sophie von Dragonborne stood hand in hand, staring at the small village they had found refuge in. It had been months since the final battle, and they had started preparing for the arrival of their child.
The boy, a perfect blend of his parents, was born with his father's silver hair and his mother's striking crystal blue eyes. A hybrid of High Elf and human, his very presence radiated immense mana, a sign of the powerful destiny that awaited him.
Nathan had never felt so calm in his life. His battles, once filled with blood and darkness, now centered around the simple joys of life, gathering supplies, preparing their small home, and discussing names for their son. The war had given them no time for grand gestures, but Nathan insisted on a wedding ceremony when their child was born. It wasn't lavish, just a gathering of their closest companions.
Freya, the fairy-human Archmage, stood beside them as they exchanged vows, her smile soft despite the weight of the war that had aged them all.
For a brief time, peace reigned.
---
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an orange glow over the village, Nathan sat outside their home. His son lay in a small crib nearby, his tiny hands reaching toward the sky. Sophie was inside, preparing a meal, humming softly to herself.
Freya joined him, her expression thoughtful.
"It feels strange, doesn't it? The quiet."
Nathan nodded.
"Too quiet, if I'm being honest."
Freya chuckled but quickly grew serious.
"I've been researching the memories we extracted from the Demon King of Sin. There's something dark buried in them, something we've never faced before."
Nathan turned toward her, his golden eyes narrowing.
"What did you find?"
"A Demon God," Freya whispered, her voice barely audible.
"It's said to be more ancient than the demon kings, more powerful than anything we've encountered. The chaos army that once followed it was sealed away, but the memories indicate that Rift and the others were preparing to awaken it."
Nathan's jaw tightened.
"And now that we've destroyed them, We might have stopped the emergence of the Demon God unless..."
Freya nodded.
"That's not all. There's someone else, someone who's been working in the shadows. The Vampire King..."
Nathan frowned.
"He disappeared after the last battle."
"Exactly. But according to the Demon King of Sin's memories, the Vampire King has been collecting forbidden artifacts and, worse, offering the heart of a dragon as a sacrifice."
Nathan's heart skipped a beat.
"Then we don't have much time. If the Demon God rises..."
Before Nathan could finish, a dark presence swept through the air like a chilling wind. The peaceful village, which had been filled with the sounds of birds and children playing, suddenly grew silent. Freya's eyes widened, and she shot to her feet, her staff glowing as she sensed the dark magic.
"Nathan... something's coming."
---
Far away, in the depths of an ancient cavern, the Vampire King knelt before a towering stone altar. In his hands, he held the still-beating heart of a dragon, its blood dripping onto the cold ground. His face was twisted with dark intent, his crimson eyes gleaming in the flickering torchlight.
"Great Demon God," he whispered, "accept my offering. Grant me the power to kill Nathan van Dragonborne, to destroy the peace he's brought."
Beside the heart, the Vampire King placed an ancient artifact, pulsing with energy older than time itself. As the two offerings lay before the altar, the air around him shimmered, dark shadows swirling.
A low, guttural voice echoed through the cavern.
"Your wish will be granted... at a cost."
---
Back in the village, the ambush was swift and brutal. A massive, chaotic entity descended from the sky, its body shifting between forms, a creature of pure, unknowable magic. Its presence seemed to warp reality itself, and the villagers screamed in terror as it tore through the homes.
Nathan's dragon, sensing the danger, roared to life, its silver scales gleaming as it readied itself for battle. Nathan drew his lance, his heart racing. The chaos entity was unlike anything he had ever seen, its powers unknown, its origin a mystery.
"Nathan!" Sophie's voice called out from their home, panic clear in her tone. She rushed outside, her eyes wide as she saw the creature looming above them.
Freya was already on the move, casting spell after spell to try to slow the entity, but it was relentless. Its eyes, if they could be called eyes. locked onto the crib, where Nathan and Sophie's newborn son lay.
"It's after the baby!" Freya shouted, her voice filled with horror. The creature then lunged one of its attack piercing her heart.
Nathan's blood turned to ice. The creature was drawn to their son's immense mana. It lunged, its dark tendrils reaching for the crib.
With a swift movement, Nathan swung his lance, severing one of the creature's legs. It howled in fury, its body writhing in pain.
"Sophie, now!" Nathan shouted.
Sophie had been preparing a grand spell, her hands glowing with ancient elven magic. She unleashed it in a blinding burst of light, teleporting the baby to safety. At the same time, she cast another spell, freezing the chaos entity in place. It wasn't permanent, but it bought them precious time.
Nathan, his body drenched in sweat, gathered the last remnants of his power. He knew they couldn't stop this creature. He used Dragon tongue along with Chronos, the combined might of his dragon's magic and his own. Together, they created a time spell that could act as a barrier around the baby then he tried trapping the creature in a time-loop.
As the spell formed, time slowed. The world grew silent. Nathan's dragon, its energy nearly depleted, stood beside him, its breathing labored. But before the spell could be completed, the chaos entity broke free of its frozen prison, surging forward with terrifying speed. It struck, and Nathan's heart dropped as he saw his dragon fall, its body crumpling to the ground, lifeless.
"No!" Nathan shouted, rushing forward, but it was too late. His dragon, his loyal companion, was gone.
He turned to Sophie, his voice hoarse.
"Run! Take the baby and go! I'll hold it off."
Sophie's eyes filled with tears, but she nodded. "I won't leave you," she whispered, her voice breaking. But she knew she had no choice. She hurried back to their home, casting one final spell to tuck their son into the time spell of Nathans's Draconic magic, wrapping him in a protective barrier. She kissed his forehead, tying a small pendant around his neck, the name they had chosen engraved on it.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered, her tears falling as the teleportation spell activated, sending him far away far from the battle.
"I love you."
---
As Sophie returned to the battlefield, her heart was breaking. Nathan stood, his body bruised and battered, barely holding himself together. The chaos entity loomed above him, relentless in its attack.
With a scream of fury, Sophie summoned the last of her strength. She called forth the Spirit Kings of Space and Ice, their forms towering above the battlefield. Together, they unleashed their power, sealing the creature in a cage of ice and spatial magic. She depleted her life force as mana needed to seal it was not enough....
But it was too late. As the chaos entity was sealed away, Nathan fell to the ground, his strength finally giving out.
"Nathan!" Sophie ran to him, dropping to her knees beside his limp form. Her hands trembled as she held him, her heart breaking.
The man she loved, the father of her child, was gone. She too had gone into an eternal slumber.
And the world, once again, was plunged into darkness.
