Luna smiled, her mind already racing with ideas. "That's right. We need to get some new outfits for the show," she said, her fingers dancing across the keyboard. "We'll hit the mall tomorrow morning. The early bird gets the best clothes, after all."
Stella nodded in agreement, excitement building in her chest. "We'll make sure to find something that'll really wow the judges," she said, grinning.
Mia's face fell at the mention of money. "I don't have any," she said quietly.
Luna waved away her concern.
"Don't worry about it, Mia," Luna said, her voice warm and reassuring. "Stella and I have a joint account with some money set aside. We'll cover the costs for you. After all, we're a team, right?"
Mia smiled, touched by her friends' generosity. "I don't know what I did to deserve you two," she said, a lump forming in her throat.
Chloe, who had been texting Emma and Sarah, looked up from her phone, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
"Well, if we're talking about what you deserve," Chloe said, her voice teasing. "As your future manager, I'm already scouting out gigs for after the competition."
Luna and Stella let out identical gasps of delight, their eyes widening with excitement. "You are?" Stella exclaimed, her face alight with hope.
Chloe nodded, a spark of determination in her eyes. "You bet I am. And I'm going to make sure you all become the biggest band in the city. Just you wait."
The room erupted in a chorus of cheers, the girls jumping up and down on the bed in excitement.
"Oh my gosh," Luna said, bouncing up and down. "We are going to be famous!"
Stella laughed, her eyes shining with joy. "Who knows, maybe we'll even go on tour!"
Mia, caught up in the infectious energy of her friends, threw her arms around Chloe in a tight hug. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Chloe hugged her back, grinning from ear to ear.
Chloe opened the door, revealing Mrs. Johnson standing there with a tray full of delicious-smelling food.
"I brought some dinner for Mia and you girls," Mrs. Johnson said, her voice gentle and warm. "I figured you must all be starving after all that talking."
Luna and Stella rushed to their mother's side, enveloping her in a tight embrace. "Thank you, Mom," they chorused, their hearts brimming with gratitude.
Mrs. Johnson smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners.
Mrs. Johnson laughed, shaking her head. "You two are quite the pair," she said, amused by their antics. "Well, Daniel's going for a school camp tomorrow, so I'll be dropping him off early. I won't be able to make breakfast, so one of you will have to cook."
Luna and Stella exchanged a look of horror, both of them suddenly turning to Chloe.
Chloe smirked, enjoying the moment. "Don't worry, I got this," she said, putting up her hands. "I can cook.
Mrs. Johnson chuckled, amused by the girls' playful bickering. "Well, I'm glad you've got Chloe to help out," she said, placing the tray of food on the bed. "And Luna, you could at least try to learn how to cook. A girl's gotta eat!"
The girls laughed, their earlier tension melting away in the warmth of Mrs. Johnson's humor.
Luna and Stella exchanged a mischievous glance. "We'll see," Luna said, winking at her sister. "Maybe I'll surprise you one day with a gourmet meal."
The girls breathed a sigh of relief, grateful for Chloe's culinary skills.
"Thanks, Chloe," Luna said, grinning. "Guess we won't be starving after all."
"Or burning the house down," Stella added, rolling her eyes playfully at her sister.
Mrs. Johnson chuckled, watching the dynamic between the girls with fondness. "Well, I'll leave you all to enjoy your dinner," she said, heading towards the door. "And Luna, Stella... don't give your future manager too much trouble."
The girls laughed, their hearts filled with warmth and friendship.
Next morning
Luna awoke with a start, her eyes adjusting to the dim light of the room. She groaned as she saw the alarm clock's display flashing 8:30 am. "Jeez, we talked until 1am last night," she muttered, shaking her head.
She turned to her sleeping friends and gently shook them awake. "Rise and shine, ladies," she said, a hint of laughter in her voice.
As the girls stirred, the room filled with a chorus of groans and yawns. Stella stretched, rubbing her eyes sleepily.
Chloe sat up in bed, her hair a disheveled mess. "Ugh, morning breath alert," she said, crinkling her nose in mock disgust.
Luna and Stella giggled, covering their mouths to conceal their own morning breath. "Oh my gosh, Chloe, you're right," Luna said, laughing. "You win the award for grossest morning breath."
Mia, who had been silent until now, groaned as she sat up. "Can we just get this day started already?" she said, her voice heavy with sleep.
The girls laughed and stumbled out of bed, stretching and yawning as they made their way towards the bathroom.
Mia, still half-asleep, tripped over her own feet and stumbled forward. Stella quickly caught her, steadying her before she could fall. "Whoa there," she said, grinning. "Watch where you're going, sleepyhead."
Chloe giggled, playfully nudging Mia. "Don't worry, Mia. We'll keep you from sleepwalking off a cliff," she teased.
Mia rolled her eyes, but a smile played on her lips.
Mia's phone buzzed, a familiar ringtone cutting through the early morning chatter. She glanced down, her heart skipping a beat as she saw her mother's name on the display.
She answered the call, her voice cautious. "Hey Mom," she said, her tone guarded.
"Mia, darling," her mother said, her voice sounding sincere. "I'm sorry about last night. Your dad is sorry too. We love you so much, and we're doing this for you. You can come home anytime, okay?"
Mia bit her lip, torn between anger and forgiveness.
Mia was silent for a moment, weighing her response. Finally, she sighed.
"I love you too, Mom," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "But things aren't okay at home. I'm staying with the girls for now. I need some space to think things through."
Her mother inhaled sharply, but before she could respond, Luna and Stella glanced over at Mia, concern etching their faces.
"Everything okay?" Luna whispered, placing a comforting hand on Mia's shoulder.
Mia took a deep breath, mustering her courage. "It's my mom," she said quietly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "She... she says she's sorry about last night."
Luna and Stella exchanged a knowing look, their hearts heavy with sympathy.
"It's okay, Mia," Stella said, her voice gentle. "You don't have to make any decisions right now. Take your time, and remember that you have us, no matter what."
Mia smiled gratefully, the love and support of her friends buoying her spirits.
