The next morning, Alex awoke to the sound of birdsong. He stretched, feeling refreshed and rested. He had slept soundly in Anya's cozy cottage, and for the first time since his reincarnation, he felt a sense of peace.
He went downstairs to find Anya preparing breakfast. The smell of pancakes and bacon filled the air.
"Good morning," Anya said, smiling. "Sleep well?"
"Yes, thank you," Alex replied. "I feel much better now."
After breakfast, Anya showed Alex a map of the surrounding area. She pointed out the nearby towns and villages, and warned him about the dangers of the forest.
"There are many creatures that roam these woods," she said. "Some of them are very dangerous."
Alex nodded, taking in her words. He knew he would have to be cautious.
"If you need anything," Anya said, "just let me know."
Alex thanked her again and set off into the forest. He had decided to try and find a nearby town, where he might be able to learn more about this new world and perhaps even find a way to return to his old life.
As he walked, he kept his eyes peeled for any signs of danger. The forest was dense and overgrown, and it was easy to get lost. He was glad he had Anya's map.
After several hours of walking, Alex heard a strange noise. It sounded like a growl, deep and menacing. He stopped and listened.
The noise grew louder, and then he saw it. A large, hulking creature emerged from the undergrowth. It was a goblin, a vicious and aggressive species.
The goblin spotted Alex and let out a blood-curdling roar. It charged at him, its claws outstretched.
Alex drew his sword, which he had found in a small pouch at his waist. He swung the sword, but the goblin was too fast. It knocked the sword out of Alex's hand and lunged at him.
Just as the goblin was about to strike, Alex managed to roll out of the way. He scrambled to his feet and grabbed a nearby branch. He swung it at the goblin, hitting it in the face.
The goblin howled in pain and backed away. Alex seized the opportunity to pick up his sword. He raised it high and swung it down with all his might.
The sword connected with the goblin's head, sending it crashing to the ground. Alex stood over the fallen creature, panting heavily. He had survived his first encounter with a dangerous creature of this world.
