Chapter 1 - The Beginning

The first time Logan Yung laid his eyes on Lisa Chang. She was standing by the large window in the university library, bathed in the golden light of the late afternoon. With a book she had on one hand, her fingers absentmindedly playing on the lock of her dark hair as she gazed out the autumn leaves falling gently from the trees outside.

Logan had seen her before passing by in the halls even sitting across the room during lectures but he had the courage to speak to her. Something about the way the light caught her face, highlighting the soft curve of her rosy cheek made Logan pause. The serene look over her looked almost otherworldly,as if she were a part of the autumn landscape outside. For a moment Logan awestruck considered walking away as he always did, retreating into his own world of books and thoughts. But something perhaps fate or just reckless impulse of youth made him take a step forward. "Beautiful view isn't it" he said, his voice hesitant barely above a whisper.

Lisa turned, startled and do a brief moment their eyes met . Logan felt a jolt of electricity,as of the universe had shifted slightly on it's axis. "Yes it is", she replied her voice soft and warm. "I love this time of the year. There's something magical about the way the world changes colors like it's preparing for a long sleep". Logan nodded, trying to steady his racing heart . "I know what you mean it's like the world is taking a deep breath before winter ".

They stood there in silence for a moment, both of them looking out to the sea of red, orange and yellow leaves swirling in the wind. Logan was quite aware of how close she was the scent of her jasmine perfume mingling with the crisp autumn air.

"I've seen you around before " she said breaking the silence. "You're in professor Brown's seminar, right ?

The one in modernist literature ?"

Logan nodded again, surprised she had noticed him . "Yes that's right indeed , I'm Logan by the way. Logan Yung" . His baritone voice pleasant to the ears booming in the room.

"Lisa Chang ", she said, extending her hand with a charming smile and her peach blossom cheeks that made Logan's heart leap . They shook hands, and Logan felt a strange sense of destiny as if this moment was the beginning of something significant . Little did he know just how right he was.

Over the next few weeks, Logan and Lisa grew closer. They started meeting regularly in the library, discussing books, films and music. Logan was amazed by how much they shared in common both of them were passionate about literature, fascinated by the complexities of human relationships and drawn to the melancholic beauty of autumn.

As their friendship deepened Logan found himself falling for Lisa in ways he didn't expect. He loved the way those hazel eyes lit up when she talked about her favorite novels, the way she laughed with reckless abandon at his dry humor and jokes ,also the way she seemed to understand him in a way no one else ever had.

But with these feelings came a gnawing fear ,a fear that she might not feel the same way and only saw him as a friend. Logan had always been cautious with his heart guarding it closely afraid of getting hurt. With Lisa he found himself wanting to take that risk,to let his guard down and see where it led.

On a crisp autumn afternoon as they walked through the campus park, the trees set ablaze with color. Logan decided to take that leap "Lisa" he began, his voice trembling slightly, " there's something I need to tell you". She looked at him with those warm hazel eyes. "I ... I think I'm falling for you",he confessed, his words hanging in the air like tress clinging to the branches above.

"I know it's sudden and maybe you don't feel the same way but I can't keep it inside anymore,I want you to know what I feel for you" , he said . For a moment Lisa said nothing and Logan's heart sank . A slow smile crept up her flawless face and she reached out to take his hand.

"Logan " ,she said softly, "I've been waiting for you to say that ". Relief and joy washed over him and as they stood there hand in hand, under the canopy of the autumn leaves . Logan knew this was the beginning of something extraordinary.

Even at that moment of happiness a small voice at the back of his mind whispered a warning: Nothing this perfect can last forever.

The next day Logan met Lisa down the same hallway they met yesterday.

However,Lisa wasn't looking particularly her brightest self today.

She walked slowly,a bit melancholic. Logan couldn't help but wonder what made her so sad. She didn't even notice him as she walked by absentmindedly.

"Lisa" Logan called while putting his hand on her shoulder.

"Huhhh" She gasped with shock

"Logan what are you doing here" she continued with fright

"What I'm I doing here,I school here Lisa " Logan replied wondering why she'd ask that.

"Oh right" she responded.

"What's wrong with you, your not quite looking your best" Logan said worriedly, he's never seen Lisa who always had a bubbly personally so down before, quite disheartening.

Lisa stood bewildered,of course she's sad but how is she going to tell him the reason was because of..., forget it she couldn't bring herself to think of it ,she thought.

"I am fine Logan" she brushed him off.

"No your not, don't try to hide the truth from me" , Logan pressed.

"I really am, you're worried over nothing, see .she said forcing the fake smile.

Logan realized she became more agitated tried a softer approach.

"Alright if you say so" he said deflated.

"Good" she said trying to walk past him.

"Wait" he called

"Oh my gosh what is he doing, I'm trying to get out of here,I can't face him like this" she screamed in her head.

She looked into his dark mesmerizing eyes, "What now Logan" she said.

"Accompany me somewhere" he said

"Where" she blurted out.

"You'll see" he said grabbing her hand

She felt sparks of electricity going through his touch, his warm hand gave her a sense of security and relief.

They appeared in front of a cool and serene garden, where you could hear chirping of birds and all sounds of nature.

"it's beautiful" she said

"I saw you were upset,I figured you would need some fresh air to calm down" Logan said softly.

"I'm sorry I made you feel that way,it wasn't my intention" Lisa pleaded with moist eyes.

"It's okay,I know you didn't mean it . You can explain whenever your ready " Logan whispered, comforting her.
