The first two emissions were met with no feedback, only silence. A third was produced, rippling through the dark room—
VREEEE.
A high-pitched shriek released from the scouting device, bringing the cautious adventurer to his feet in a hurry as he plucked the object from the ground. He didn't let his boots drag across the ground, taking soft steps as if the floor beneath was made of brittle glass, leaving no trace of sound behind him.
'—Something's there,' he thought, pressing his body up against the wall away from the doorway.
Only a second after he stabilized his breathing did the scrape of foreign footsteps come into earshot.
There weren't plentiful options to hide himself from what was coming, only praying that whatever it was, it didn't leave the bounds of the area ahead.
Closer, the steps came, their percussion being felt clearly, undoubtedly but a few steps beyond the entrance beside him.
