Chapter 2 - The Potential, The Gift, and The Training

Watching Sentret enjoy the sweets, I begin to think about what to do next.

'He has mastered both Ice Punch and Hone Claws, which shows his level of talent for learning moves, as well as how hardworking he is, as he demonstrated in previous training sessions.'

'No, the main reason is that he's just so cute. Not to mention...'

Right after thinking that, an almost imperceptible sparkle appears in my eyes.

Looking at Sentret, I can see a green glow with blue streaks covering his body.

'Huh? There weren't that many blue streaks before. His talent must have increased.'

Something I noticed some time after arriving here is that Pokémon have potential values. But this potential can be increased through various means, so if a trainer is willing to invest, their Pokémon's potential will keep advancing.

This is a big advantage for wealthy trainers, which explains a lot about Steven, but in any world, money has always been an advantage.

Potentials can be divided into:

- Gold;

- Purple;

- Pink;

- Blue;

- Green;

- Yellow;

- White.

From the highest to the lowest.

With gold being the perfect potential, without further evolution, possessed by legendaries, according to the books. And even though talents can evolve, it is almost impossible to achieve.

This led me to study the subject further, and then I learned that all legendaries are born with perfect potential, which raised some questions for me.

This idea that potential can evolve has always sparked my curiosity, leading me to some theories, but the one that stood out is that potential in this world might be linked to Pokémon genes, meaning individual values (IVs).

After researching a bit more, I found a quote in a book stating that HP, physical attack, physical defense, special attack, special defense, and speed also have potential levels. The combination of these sub-potentials forms the overall potential.

This helped clarify my theory a bit, although it still lacks confirmation.

Now, with this small improvement in Sentret's talent, I might have a basis to confirm my hypothesis with the help of my gift.

Speaking of my gift, I might actually be blessed. I don't know if this happened because of my rebirth or because I was born in Viridian Forest, but I have some special abilities.

They started manifesting a few months ago, beginning with my ability to see colors in Pokémon and people. Then came this natural empathy from Pokémon towards me and a sense of belonging to the forest.

Even now, I'm not sure if I've discovered all the effects of my Viridian Force. You might be wondering how I know it's the Viridian Force.

To be honest, I wasn't sure it was the Viridian Force, but a few days ago, after I fell and injured my knee while training with Sentret, I wished I could heal myself.

Then, after that, my hands began to emit a green glow filled with vitality.

Guiding my hands to the injured knee, I felt a comforting warmth gathering at the wound. Shortly after, I started to feel a slight itch on my knee, and I realized my injury was healing right before my eyes.

After that, I began increasing my training load along with Sentret's.

Using the Viridian Force to heal both myself and Sentret improved our training efficiency. No matter how tired we were, the Viridian Force quickly healed our fatigue, relieving our post-training soreness and helping to strengthen our bodies as a result.

If I had something to measure Sentret's level, I think I would see that he leveled up with all the training we've done.

I could clearly see how much his strength has increased. He used to be slower, so I had him run and climb a certain course, doing countless laps to increase his speed and strengthen both his lower and upper muscles.

The results are visible, considering that Sentrets are a species generally considered quite weak, with a base stat of 215 points.

Normally, they would be seen as mascots and, in the wild, would be at the bottom of the food chain. They might even hurt themselves by punching a tree like the one Sentret punched earlier.

But I believe all Pokémon have potential, so I trained him, and now he is strong enough to make a large tree shake.

Looking at Sentret again, I ask:

"Hey, Sentret, are you ready to train?"

"Sentr, Sen Sentret!"

He responds enthusiastically, taking the typical stance of a Sentret, standing upright on his stiff tail.

With Sentret by my side, I head towards the small training field we set up.

After a three-minute walk, we arrive at a small clearing with a rock wall, where many large, medium, and small stones are scattered around the training field.

You can also see some hoops hanging from the tree branches, used to train Sentret's jumping ability and aerial coordination.

Upon arriving at the training field, I take out a small notebook where I've written down some of Sentret's stats, including his ability, learned moves, and the tailored training plan.

Sentret: Scout Pokémon

Gender: Male

Ability: Run Away

Mastered Moves: Scratch, Defense Curl, Quick Attack, Charm, Ice Punch, Hone Claws, Focus Energy (egg move), Tidy Up (egg move), Last Resort (egg move)

Training Plan: Work on speed and improve coordination while running at high speed, as well as strengthen the tail for future moves like Aqua Tail or Iron Tail.

Diet Plan: Two servings of Oran berries for recovery and stamina enhancement, and one serving of Aspear berries to help master Ice-type energy, making it easier to learn Ice Punch.

'Hmm... I'll wait until he fully masters Ice Punch, then I'll be able to adjust his training diet.'

I thought as I looked over the training plan. Sentret's current diet consists of Oran berries that he picks himself in the forest, and some Aspear berries that I had to buy with the money I saved.

"Alright, Sentret. Start by warming up with a run through the obstacles."

I tell Sentret, who quickly begins running between the rocks scattered across the training field.

Watching him run, I put my camera back in my bag and place it on the ground. Stretching, I begin exercising along with Sentret.

I spend a few minutes doing push-ups, sit-ups, and squats.

After a few quick exercises, I start guiding Sentret on what I want him to do next.

"Sentret, next we're going to work on mastering the moves you've learned with more precision, okay?"

"Sentr se"

Sentret responds, standing at attention in front of me, waiting for the next commands.

I walk over to a rock that comes up to my waist.

"I want you to use *Ice Punch* on this rock as many times as you can."

I say, pointing to the rock.

"Sentr."

He nods, and going over to the rock, he begins gathering Ice-type energy in his paw. Quickly, he starts punching the rock, breaking off small fragments and spreading a layer of ice over it.

Nodding at Sentret, focused on his training, I walk over to a stone that must weigh around 50 kilograms. Grabbing it with both hands and using force, I manage to lift it with some effort.

Something I've noticed is that humans in the Pokémon world are stronger than those in my previous world.

Of course, a normal eight-year-old child from the Pokémon world wouldn't be able to lift 50 kilograms. This is thanks to the training I've been doing with Sentret.

After some time, tired from the training, I drop the stone on the ground and look over at Sentret, who also seems to be reaching his limit.

"It's over, Sentret. That's enough for today. It's time to rest."

I say, wiping the sweat from my forehead.

"Sentr..."

Says the little guy, clearly tired from the training.

"Fuoo, so, do you want to eat now?"

"Seeent!"

Panting, I ask Sentret. As soon as I mention food, I see his eyes light up and drool start dripping from his little mouth.

"Hahaha, you really are a glutton, huh."

I say, laughing after being amused by his behavior. I go to my backpack, take out a bowl of fruit salad with honey, and give it to him to eat.

"Hey, Sentret. We've been training together for a while now, and I wanted to know if you'd like to be my partner."

I ask, looking at him. He stops eating, lifts his head, and looks at me with an expression like, 'Seriously, you're only asking now?'

"Hehehe... So, do you want to?"

Looking at him, I laugh and ask again.

"Sentret."

He nods, then quickly jumps onto my shoulder and rubs his cheek against mine.

"Hahaha."

"It's good to have you as a partner too, Sentret."

I say with a smile on my face, looking at him on my shoulder.

"Let's go home."
