Chapter 1 - Undone

"We are our choices"

 Jean-paul sartre

Stuck behind the counter of the dimly lit cafe she happened to work at, she didn't attempt to stop her mind from wandering far beyond the mundane tasks of preparing drinks and clearing off tables. The scene before her began to shift into something more appealing, waltzing along the isles which seemed to change with each step she took, her hands intertwined with the hands of another as each graceful step gradually led her closer and closer to a nearby wall. The heels that had somehow managed to find their way onto her feet clicked against the hard floor in a perfect rhythm that resonated with the music surrounding the two. The moment she was living could only be described as a fairytale, the fabrics of her dress moved along with her body as she danced, the face of the man before her obscure yet so familiar to her as if she had seen him before, perhaps in a dream. The memories of the cafe seemed to drift farther and farther away with each passing moment, every swirl and spin pulled her mind farther and farther away from those small and minute tasks.

"Lilith.." He whispered, the sound sending a rush through her body. Her back against the wall as her hair lay flush against the open window of her back, a shiver running down her spine as she felt his hand against her chin. He tilted her head up ever so slightly so he had a perfect view of her flushed face, and she couldn't bring herself to look anywhere else besides into his eyes.

"Yes.." she finally managed to whisper back, the sound of her voice nearly being drowned out by the music. If it hadn't been for their proximity she was sure he wouldn't have been able to hear her.

The mysterious man grinned, slightly pulling on her chin and bringing their faces closer together, tilting his head to whisper gently into her ears.

"Lilith! Come on get up!" One of her friends, Casey, had been shaking her by the shoulder in an attempt to snap her out of the daydream she had found herself trapped in.

"Oh!" She jumped at the contact, looking away from him to try and hide the blush that might've remained from her daydream. That was just her life, wasn't it? Hoping and dreaming for that perfect love story.
