We woke up the next morning after we kicked Molly out of the dormitory. We got out in a single file till we reached the stairs. Molly was waiting for me by the railings. Annie saw her and nudged me gently. I was pushed to the wall as we descended. The others formed a perimeter. She gave us a menacing smile. It remained on her face till her friend Adrian came running and tried to yank her away. We took the moment of distraction to sneak out. The supervisor told Molly to get to her class or she is going to get detention. It will not look good on her transcripts. She gave me a once over and moved on. Alice predicted that she will stop by during lunchtime.
True to her words Molly and her group of friends were waiting for us. As we passed by she called me out and I ignored her as a rule. The headmistress and the other members of faculty were discussing the latest gossip while we piled up on lasagna. Molly and her friends were a few paces away. We got our food and sat next to the teachers to ensure Molly would leave us alone. Fat chance of that happening. She sat with us and asked me directly if I wouldn't mind donating my blood for research. I flat out refused. The others concurred. She was told to move to another table. I told the others to ignore her and finish our lunch.
She kept persisting and I finally gave her the look of death and she gave me the middle finger. The headmistress saw her and ordered her to meet her in her office. Molly asked if she could finish lunch first. I asked politely what Molly did to earn the notice. We were busy enjoying our lunch when she decided to annoy us. The annoyed headmistress asked the others for verification purposes and they confirmed that they were trying to focus on their homework and she was harassing them. Molly tried to refute but we showed the supervisor our handwritten notes. He decided that we were trying to contemplate how we were going to finish the assignments.
Molly gave us dirty looks as she walked towards the door. The others cheered when she walked out. It turns out she is a pain in the butt to everyone in school. Some were hoping that she gets booted out of school. They were spreading all sorts of rumors. I ignored it as we headed to our next assignment. The bulletin board showed when the military would arrive for the monthly hosing event. Our rooms will be inspected in our presence. No blood is drawn unless they are suspicious of us. We were told to stay indoors since the police were doing a thorough search of the woods for a missing girl. My mom was talking to Batou. She had a map of surrounding topography. I snuck out and gave her a bear hug. The supervisor slipped closer to listen to our conversation and gave me a blind eye when he realized we were related. She asked me how my day was. After a few minutes of interrogation she implored me to stay away from the city since kids are suddenly disappearing. I swore that I will stay within the confines of the building till I get the go ahead to go shopping for essentials. Like feminine hygiene, snacks and other vitally important things. One of the rookies said that the sniffer dogs were here so they can commence the search. Mom gave me one last hug and Batou stroked my hair and pinched my cheeks before walking off. I was asked very politely to go back indoors.
As the oak doors slammed shut Molly was seen walking to the guidance counselor's office. An elderly man walked beside her. He had similar features so I can assume that the guy was her dad. I hid so that Molly wouldn't point me out to her dad. The argument continued till Molly was escorted out of school for mandatory therapy sessions. It means she could be made an inpatient. The students celebrated with a party. We were invited but I refused since I had other plans. Like sneaking out to a clinic to grab a blood bag or go home to grab one from the medical room. I was repairing my laptop when I heard a creak I took a karate pose with a screwdriver in my hand. It was mom and Batou. They were observing my tech savviness. Mom asked me why I wasn't in one of the dormitories having a blast. I told her that it wasn't my style. I resumed to replace the defective half of the motherboard.
Once done I pulled out a sandwich and ate it as I listened to an audio file about an FBI investigation on a series of missing persons cases. I took a pen and jotted relevant points. When I was done I looked up to see mom and Batou were grinning ear to ear. I told them I was bored and was not in the mood to listen to Bach. Mom asked me if I wanted to go out of the school for a bit. I told her that I miss her cooking. Batou asked me if I missed using antacid like it was seasoning. Mom smacked him on the back of his head as we both laughed our butts off. I remembered the day we ate at five different restaurants. Batou looked at us like we were a bunch of loonies. He asked us where we put all the food. I reminded him that the stomach is like an elastic bag. We took the food binge as a challenge. This had Batou look at us like we had lost our marbles.
A scream was heard and we ran downstairs to see a man bleeding on the floor. The supervisor was stabbed brutally. Molly was standing over him. Mom pulled out her gun and told her to put up her hands. Molly gave her the look of death and charged at us. I pulled mom aside and punched her in the face. I swept the floor with my feet. She fell face forward. I grabbed mom and Batou's hand as I bolted. We reached the stairs and Molly lunged at us. I jumped up and she fell down the stairs. She twisted and turned as she rolled down. Her mechanical limbs broke. Her father came and tried to reason with them but I ran downstairs. I asked him to forget about me being a hybrid. He immediately did. Molly asked her dad if he really did what I asked him to do. He looked at her with glazed eyes. She knew I hypnotized him. She gave me a subtle look. Mom came and dragged me away from them. Batou arrested her and dragged her to booking. A few hours later a dozen people in lab coats came in and took all of Molly's things. They asked the teachers to forget that she was even a student. The faculty was curious but the students were cheerful. Celebration lasted a week and soon things got boring again.
A month later we were given the go ahead. But I asked mom for permission since she is going to have a heart attack if she sees me. So after promising to check in every hour I am away from school premises. We had to take special permission to leave. So when it was our turn to leave Batou came as a chauffeur. I told him it was not necessary but he gave me a deaf ear. I hopped in the car with Sonja and Irene. The others went with Alice's mom. We went our separate ways. My period had stopped since I took the stuff so I was just going to get me new underwear and a new pair of shoes. The others had an entire toilet paper roll written down. When I whispered it to Batou he laughed so hard that I almost called an ambulance. He chuckled, "Wait till your mother hears it. I think she will have you institutionalized." The others were busy trying to figure out which stores to drop by. Batou parked his Jeep and we walked single file like we were kids from kindergarten.
I saw Molly walking with her father and knew trouble was coming. So I nudged the others to forewarn them. They brushed it off saying the odds on our side. We went from one store to the next and the next. Till we ended in the one Molly was in. I saw her before she even noticed. I dragged the girls out of there. Batou asked me if everything was ok. I asked him to get the car since we're going to the mall. We hopped in the car and prayed we weren't going to get noticed. I didn't get the notification that our luck and my sleep were on permanent vacation. Molly saw us as we drove by. She hailed a cab and followed us to the mall. Batou was wondering what the heck was going on. We wanted to let slip that the girl who assaulted supervisor Mitchell was chasing after us. We were sure she was going to assault us as well. Batou would have called in and he would be on high alert as he drove into the building designated for parking. We decided to keep our mouths firmly shut.
Batou waited outside the shop while we did the shopping. I kept one eye firmly on the girls while trying to sense Molly. After a brief moment of using echolocation while trying an outfit I found her by the information booth. Batou said that he is needed to help with a homicide. I told him to get going. We are almost done and we will take a cab home. He made me call mom to let her know that Batou was leaving. As Batou moved aside I saw that Molly had found me. I made sure to tell the girls to change their outfits since it was time to be invisible again. Molly was walking as fast but not too fast as she would not get noticed. We went to the bathroom and then stuffed our belongings in our backpacks and satchels. Then we held hands and walked out in a single file. All Molly would see was that one moment we were visible but then we disappeared. She started to search the place but found none. We took the stairs. We waited a moment and then made ourselves visible before walking out the front door. The moment we were in the streets we made sure to get to the other side and reach the subway. I saw that Molly was using X-ray vision. I think she saw us so I used the invisibility mode again for extra measure. We went to the bathroom and changed outfits and I told them to wait here till I got back.
I saw that Molly was in the mall. She has high hopes that she would find me. I became invisible and went to the floor she was on. I made myself visible on the stairs. I knew there were no cameras so I could do as I pleased. I made sure Molly saw me so she followed me. I snuck inside a changing room and made myself invisible again. As quickly as possible I picked the smallest and lightest item and dropped it in her pocket. I zipped off to make myself visible inside the racks. I walked out calmly and she tried to do the same when she discovered where I was. The alarm went off and security surrounded her and asked her to decide whether she was going to go with them or the police. I walked to the subway and found the girls in the gift shop. I told the girls what happened as we hopped in the train that would take us away from here. Irene was in stitches and Sonja shook my hand. The ride back was simple and peaceful. We found the rest of the items and came back before sundown. While the girls put their stuff away I had to leave a message for mom so she won't have a heart attack. She picked up on the eighth ring we ended up chatting till midnight.
