"And then he kissed me," she said.
"Your husband is really amazing!"
Then an awkward silence followed.
Eira sat on the worn couch in Sana's small but tidy living room, sipping tea from a chipped mug.
The sound of the heater filled the silence as Sana flipped through a stack of magazines. She furrowed her brow in concentration.
"Have you thought about going back home?" Sana asked, her eyes lifted to meet Eira's.
Eira shook her head, setting her mug down on the low coffee table. "I don't know if I can. Callian says he wants me to, but… everything feels so complicated."
Sana leaned back in her chair. "Complicated how? He seems like he's trying."
Eira hesitated, her fingers played with the edge of her sweater. "It's not just him. It's his family. His mother hates me, Vanesa keeps stirring trouble, and now Mita is back, acting like she belongs in his life."
