Chapter 19 - Attention

Vonn had no choice but to press his face against the ground. All for his goals—he couldn't reveal his powers for the meantime.

Over the past few years, he'd learned to be patient. Silence enveloped him in every meditation. Since then, he knew how to persevere as well.

All those traits he'd acquired gave him the opportunity to unlock at least half of his exorcist powers. That would be for emergencies only, as his espera was also limited for the moment. Hence, fighting back against a kid wasn't necessary.

"Should we just kill him?" Dvion asked, his eyes cold and empty, as if his words held no weight to him.

'Damn. Of course, my life would just be a toy to him. But I won't let that happen.'

With eyes closed, Vonn murmured and summoned a shadow to scout the area. All he needed was to make sure no one would witness what he was about to do.

'The novel hands him powers like a charity. He sure isn't a joke, considering how overpowered he is at such a young age.' Clenching his fist, Vonn finally scouted the area and confirmed no one else was around.

'Alright…'

"I don't think so, young master."

Dvion turned to look at the boy to his left, the oldest among them.

Flustered and uncomfortable under Dvion's deep stare, the boy glanced aside as he explained.

"That's because… if you kill him, it'll just dirty your hands. I should kill him for you."

Vonn sighed in frustration. 'Of course, none of them are reasonable. Why did I even expect that?'

The kids of the Silverfein family, even those from the vassal families, were strangely self-centered. From a young age, they were taught to be selfish and cunning. With those essential traits for a Silverfein, power became attainable.

The foundation of the Silverfein family was built on fear. Without it, they wouldn't have bloomed and prospered to the point where even a nation feared making them an enemy.

Thus, the power a kid like Dvion held was no joke. He knew full well that no one could deny or even punish him, except his mother.

Dvion nodded at his lackey's suggestion. "Alright. You make sense. I agree."

Vonn could only sigh to himself. It appeared he had no choice but to save himself from this situation.

'But… wouldn't that also mean attracting their attention to me?' Vonn pondered for a moment, then closed his eyes and thought, 'What's the use of my power if I don't use it for my own gain?'

"Alright! It's decided—I'll kill him," said one of the boys, who had a slimmer build than the others.

The bulky one, who had a rougher expression, scowled. "No way. I'll do the honor of killing him for the young master."

"How about we do it ourselves?"

Vonn had promised himself not to draw attention unless absolutely necessary. There were still too much unpredictability he needed to counter.

'What is life without a little risk?' Vonn asked himself, deciding he would save himself right now.

While Dvion's two lackeys argued over how to kill him, Vonn was already conjuring a small gust of wind to distract them.

Both lackeys felt the faint breeze against their skin. Dvion, however, was puzzled.

'How could there be wind here?' he wondered, glancing back to find the source.

After scanning his surroundings and sensing nothing unusual, he turned back, only to realize the person they had cornered had vanished.

"What the hell? Did he slip away?" Dvion pondered, laughing bitterly to himself. "Someone actually bumped into me, ignored me, and then escaped? Wow… Amazing." A forced grin crept onto his face.

Shaking his head, he clenched his fists. This was the first time he hadn't gotten exactly what he wanted.

His two lackeys, meanwhile, were speechless at Vonn's sudden disappearance. They hadn't even noticed him move.

"Ah… young master, what if we just let him go this time? We'll see him again if he's bold enough to come back to the estate."

"Right… we can always kill him later. It won't be difficult." Both of them had scornful tones, but Dvion was displeased.

He clicked his tongue. "No one should be able to slip past the estate's tight security. He must be from one of the vassal families."

"What? He is? It's unlikely someone would disobey you!" the slimmer one exclaimed.

The bulky one pretended to think. "He really needs to be punished. Don't worry, young master, I'll find him personally and bring him to you."

Dvion sighed. "Don't. It's a waste of time. We still have to prepare for the upcoming Mixed Discipline Tournament."

The slimmer one nodded, recalling the upcoming event to be held at Wounded Stadium. "Understood, young master. Rest assured, you will definitely bring home the title."

"As if I'm worried about that." Dvion clicked his tongue and resumed his interrupted pace.

Meanwhile, Vonn panted in the room he had slipped into to escape. He didn't have time to fully assess where he was—his only thought was to get away from them undetected.

Shaking his head, he couldn't believe how kids in this world were so different from those on Earth. They were mature and arrogant at such a young age. Sure, this only applied to noble descendants or wealthy kids, but it was still bewildering.

'I must persevere… Linn is still on his way to becoming the strongest. While I'm here, I should take advantage of everything I can learn and gain. My powers… they're returning. All I need are the ingredients to unlock them.'

Having no Mana Heart was tough. But he wasn't about to let himself stay that way forever. Delving deeper into Frain's memories, he had discovered not only how to control mana from the surroundings but also how to create an artificial Mana Heart. Having one would ease his worry of being easily overpowered.

'If I gain the same abilities as regular people, I won't be questioned.'

The other reason Vonn was cautious about exposing his powers was that it would raise questions—how could he have such abilities without a Mana Heart? Undoubtedly, being an anomaly in this world would attract trouble from every direction.

'Time for adventure,' Vonn thought with a smirk. He then summoned a shadow to scout the area, ensuring Dvion and his lackeys were nowhere nearby.
