POV: Xavier
The air felt suffocating, heavy with tension after Leon's announcement. Jeremy had escaped. My jaw tightened at the thought of him slithering out of his cell, planning something vile, no doubt involving Fiona. The thought of him near her again made my blood boil. He had already done enough.
I turned to Fiona. She looked so fragile and small, she was just sitting there, her hands gripping the sheets like they were the only thing keeping her grounded. Her wide eyes darted between Leon and me, panic written all over her face. It made me feel... helpless, which was new. I didn't like it.
I had to take control and I had to do it soon, even if it means I had to kill my only son.
"I'll deal with it," I said, my voice coming out sharper than I meant it to. But I wasn't apologizing. Fiona didn't need soft words right now. She needed action—she needed to know I wouldn't let anything happen to her.
