Tall brick buildings. Wide and clean roads. A lot of people. Just the way she remembered.
Her heart quivered. It wasn't the usual excited quivering.
"Do you dislike Ceren?" Drifus asked.
"Would it make a difference if I didn't? Most, even your own people do not like this city."
"Yes but… I like it."
"Of course, you do. If everyone were born with silver spoon like yours, I'm sure they would too."
"Perhaps," Drifus said. "Though I still have a soft spot for this place regardless."
They walked.
They walked past the vibrant clean signs, past the people who seemed like they belonged, past the slaves in the alleyways… they walked past it all.
Lights gradually lit up across the city. No pyres in sight, all magical lampposts. All fancy.
