The gold-robed palace guards sent by Cersei immediately pounced on the sword hall where Arya was and the mansion where Sansa and Jon were currently like vicious wolves.
After the news of Ned's departure came out, the person who was most shocked was Varys. In his opinion, since Ned came to King's Landing, he had been almost manipulated by Littlefinger.
Although he could see that Ned's trust in Littlefinger had been reduced, it was of no avail. In his eyes, Ned was like a moth that had crashed into a spider web. If he struggled slowly, he would die slowly, and if he struggled quickly, he would die quickly.
And now Ned, the dying moth, had escaped, much to his surprise.
With accidents come troubles.
In fact, he, like Littlefinger, hopes that Westeros will be as chaotic as possible. Only in this way can Aegon, who is far away in the Free Cities, have a chance, and the Targaryens to whom he is loyal can have a chance to restore.
But he is in trouble now. If this guy hadn't "outsourced" the servants in the palace, Jon wouldn't have been able to get in so easily.
He can't just issue a statement to shift the blame for this matter, he has to be responsible for this matter!
Now Littlefinger and Varys are both depressed. Who rescued Ned?
Of course, what he couldn't understand even more was how Ned could leave under such close surveillance?
If someone rescued him, then what kind of person was that rescuer?
Just as he was thinking hard, there was a rapid knock on the door.
"Lord Varys! Lord Varys!"
Normally, the people responsible for summoning people are nimble children, but now there is an obvious male voice outside the door. He knows that this is most likely the person sent by Cersei to question him.
Varys opened the door in his soft slippers.
"Your Majesty summons you."
Littlefinger was also summoned at the same time.
In fact, there are not many people Cersei can trust, and the main reason she asked Little Wei to come here is to let him give her advice.
Varys stood in front of Maegor's Holdfast, the queen's residence, waiting for Littlefinger.
He himself lived in the Red Keep, and Littlefinger had to climb Aegon's High Hill and then walk a long way to get here.
Varys could see that Littlefinger was in a hurry; his breathing was heavy.
Littlefinger looked at Varys and asked
"Sir, is there a secret passage in the Prime Minister's Tower?"
"If anything, I think I'll leave with Lord Ned."
Looking at Varys's somewhat fat body, Little Finger said
"If that's the case, then this must be a pretty spacious secret passage."
Varys shrugged, ignoring his words.
Both of them were old foxes, and they eliminated each other's suspicion with just a few words and simple actions.
When he heard that Ned had escaped, Littlefinger first suspected Varys, because it was rumored that he knew many secret passages in the Red Keep.
But now it seems that Varys has no reason to take the risk to help Ned, but he himself has been getting closer to Ned recently.
Cersei's spies knew all of this.
When the two men saw Cersei, they saw her standing in the main hall of Maegor's Holdfast surrounded by red-robed guards.
The lights were bright all around, but because she was looking down from above, the two could only see that Cersei's eyes were filled with shadows, and the shock and anger hidden in them were about to burst out.
"Lord Varys, your so-called little bird doesn't seem to be very useful."
Cersei's cold voice rang out, and Varys buried his bald head, his mind racing.
It stands to reason that his surveillance of Ned has reached an airtight level. Unless the person who took him away knows witchcraft, there is absolutely no possibility for Ned to escape.
Suddenly, a man in a red robe with a sack on his shoulder walked out of the shadows. He threw the sack to the ground with a bang, and a wailing sound came out from inside.
"Ouch—"
From the voice, Varys recognized that this was the guy he sent to clean Ned's toilet disguised as a servant.
Cersei looked at the sack squirming and struggling on the ground and said, "He was supposed to be cleaning the toilet in the Tower of the Hand, but when he was found, he was hiding in the stable."
Varys walked forward and opened the sack, and immediately saw a head with half of the face swollen exposed, and the brown eyes looked around in shock and fear.
The men in red robes with their heads covered in helmets looked like sculptures. Although their faces could not be seen clearly, it seemed as if they would chop themselves into pieces in the next moment.
"Can you tell me what's going on?" Varys's tone was gentle, which made the half-grown child feel a little relieved.
"A very thin man found me and told me to hide in the stable."
"And then?" Varys asked.
"And then I just hid there."
"..."
"Can you explain it more clearly?"
"He was the one who told me to hide in the stables, and I went there, and he gave me a Valyrian dagger."
As he spoke, a man in a red robe stepped forward and showed them the dagger he had found.
Varys's face was a little grim. He asked, "So he gave you a dagger, and you listened to him and hid in the stable, right?"
The boy nodded, and for the first time Varys began to doubt his own judgment of people.
Over the years, he has been able to pick the smartest children to use for himself, and the one in front of him is the one he thinks is the smartest, but now it seems...
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I will teach them a lesson."
Cersei was in no mood to pursue the matter now. He looked at Littlefinger and asked
"You didn't notice any movement there either?"
"Sansa is currently attending a banquet at Count Madero's mansion. We can..."
Before he finished speaking, Cersei glanced at the guard behind her. The guard understood what she meant and left with his men.
Cersei is now completely panicked. Ned has already revealed his cards to her and asked her to take her three children and run away. She originally wanted to take the initiative and launch a coup.
I thought I had everything under control and was just waiting for Ned to reveal a flaw first, but I didn't expect him to run away!
Littlefinger also found that the situation was getting out of control. He didn't know what Ned had discovered that made him no longer trust him.
Before, he was fearless because he could always keep track of Ned's movements, but now that Ned has left, he has to think about the reason.
However, he calmed himself down a little, thinking that Ned probably didn't have any definite evidence yet, otherwise he would have dared to confront Cersei. Why didn't he dare to make it clear in front of him?
Littlefinger peeked at Cersei, who was twisting her hands together. It seemed that the queen, or rather the queen mother, was in more trouble at the moment.
