Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Entrustment and Leaving

At dinner time in the evening, Grenn placed a backpack full of copper stars and silver deer in front of Jon. Judging from the sound, this bag of coins must weigh at least fifteen or sixteen pounds.

Jon looked at the coins that almost filled the backpack and asked, "How much is it?"

Grenn sat down and shook his head. "Almost no one believes you will win. I don't know. I haven't counted and I can't count."

Jon smiled and pushed the coins that filled a backpack toward Grenn. "I'll give you half."

Unexpectedly, Grenn, who should have valued money, rolled his eyes at Jon and said, "I don't need it in this damn place."

Grenn looked at Jon, who was grinning. He asked, "Jon, can you tell me why you must leave the Wall?"

Jon did not answer his question, but said seriously: "Glenn, if what I am about to do is successful, you will get my news soon, but I hope you must keep in mind what I am going to say next."

Seeing Jon's serious expression, Grenn also felt a little nervous.

Seeing that there was no one around, Jon moved closer to him and said, "You've heard the rumors about the wights recently. You must remember what I'm going to say next. Those wights have blue eyes and can only be killed with weapons made of obsidian or weapons made by Dragonglass. Also, when you deal with corpses in the future, whether they are the corpses of wildlings or brothers of the Night's Watch, try to cremate them, otherwise they may become living dead and hurt others."

It was obvious that Grenn was skeptical about Jon's words, but Jon didn't care and continued to say to him, "It doesn't matter if you don't believe me. Do you remember the fat man I told you about in the Shadow Tower? His name is Sam. Remember to introduce him to Maester Aemon. This guy can read and likes reading. Then you will know if I am talking nonsense."

Seeing that Jon looked serious and didn't seem to be lying, Grenn agreed with some doubt.

He was silent for a while, then asked, "When are you going to leave?"

Jon took a sip of water and said, "We'll leave early tomorrow morning."

After all, from the Wall to King's Landing, Jon needs to cross the north, riverland and the crown territory. The journey is long. In order to prevent accidents, he naturally has to race against time.

While the two were talking, a somewhat unfamiliar face walked up to Jon and said in an embarrassed tone: "Jon, can you help me look after my family after you leave the Wall?"

Jon looked at the burly guy with a coy expression and couldn't help but feel a little funny, but he was a little hesitant in his heart, because he didn't know if he would not be able to find their family if the war broke out. But at this moment, he found that a bunch of eager eyes were cast at him, so he sighed and said, "Okay."

Then one after another, the Night's Watch soldiers stood up and asked Jon to visit their families or loved ones on their behalf.

"Jon, my home is..."

"My home is in the river bend..."

"My home is in Riverrun..."

There were so many people missing home that Jon finally had to find a notebook to record the hundreds of addresses.

Jon felt that his time was very tight, so he thought that if he could successfully prevent the war, or survive the war, he would find as much as he could, at least to give some comfort to those who missed home.

"Anything else?"

After more than an hour, Jon shook his sore hands and asked everyone. Suddenly, a voice came from behind him: "Jon, my home is in King's Landing. Please give this thing to a guy called Old Krok and tell him that I am still alive."

In his hand he held a thumb-sized wooden sculpture of a crocodile.

Old Kai's eyes were a little evasive. After all, he had just embarrassed Jon not long ago. Even if he was a thick-skinned man, he would feel a little embarrassed now.

Old Kai said, "Jon, I would like to ask you to...deliver this to a man named Old Crocodile in King's Landing."

Jon looked at the small crocodile wood carving that he had played with until it was shiny, then opened his palm and took it.

Jon said, "I'll do my best."

Seeing Jon agreed so readily, Old Kai felt more and more guilty, so he fumbled around on his body for a while and took out a dagger in a cowhide sheath and put it on the table.

There was some reluctance in his eyes, but he still made up his mind and said, "I give this thing to you for self-defense."

The people around were very surprised to see that Old Kai actually gave this thing to Jon. Jon realized that the preciousness of this dagger was probably beyond his imagination.

Jon refused, "I can't guarantee that I will see the old Krok you mentioned, and everyone..."

Jon continued, "I can't guarantee that I can pass on your greetings to your families. I can only assure you that I will do my best after I finish my own business..."

Old Kai placed a hand on Jon's shoulder and whispered, "Jon, we all know that even ravens can't reach their destination. Just think of this as a reminder for everyone.

Don't refuse this dagger, as long as it can help you, it's worth it."

Jon nodded and took the dagger.

Afterwards, the Night's Watch brothers prepared a lot of food and clothes for Jon. If he hadn't repeatedly refused to take them, he might have had to find another carriage.

Meanwhile, Joer was talking to Alliser about what happened during the day: "This little bastard is really good at hiding things. Do you think he was planning to leave when he first arrived at the Wall?"

Jon's sudden burst of strength was beyond everyone's expectations, and Alliser was really embarrassed.

Jeor glanced at him, thinking that there was no such rule when Jon first came, but he knew that Alliser would be embarrassed about this, so he said, "If he really wants to leave right after he arrives, why doesn't he go with Tyrion?"

Jeor couldn't figure out why Jon wanted to leave, but there was no point in thinking about it now. He thought about it and decided that he had to tell Ned about it.

So after Alliser left, Joer took out a blank piece of writing paper, sat in front of the window, and prepared to write a letter to King's Landing in the light from outside.

"Respected Lord Ned..."

Because the message had to be delivered by raven, Jeor wrote the content very briefly, but neither Jon nor Jeor expected that this simple and even somewhat brief letter caused Ned to have a huge misunderstanding, and caused great trouble to Jon.

At night, perhaps because of the experience card or because he was too excited, Jon couldn't fall asleep the whole night. He kept imagining various situations and coping plans in his mind.

Jon discovered that there was a very important node in this matter, which was Robert's death. It would be best if he could arrive before Robert was bitten to death by a wild boar, but it was unlikely based on the time.

Of course, it would be good if he could arrive before Ned was sentenced to prison. In this way, he could find a way to make Ned not be so stubborn. Even if he really wanted to avenge his good brother, he would return to the North and gather troops before doing it.

But if Ned had been imprisoned before he arrived in King's Landing, the situation would be bad. First of all, not everyone could enter the Red Keep, and he didn't have much time left. It was almost at Littlefinger's instigation that Ned had King Joffrey behead him in a hurry.

If that time really comes, I can find a way to take Arya away, return to the North, and then join Robb's army. Even if I still can't prevent the war from happening, then the primary goal is to ensure victory for my side.

Jon's mind was full of thoughts, and he almost watched the sky outside gradually brighten.

At the same time, the news that he was about to leave the Wall had spread throughout the entire Black Castle. I believe that within a few days all the Night's Watch would know the news.

When Grenn sent Jon to the door, he once again reminded Grenn about the wights.

"Alright, alright. Valyrian steel, obsidian, and a fat man who can read. I remember them all."

Grenn seemed a little impatient. Jon had said it once before he went to bed last night, and twice in his ear when he got up in the morning. He had just finished packing up and Jon had said it again. This was the fifth time now.

Jon understood Grenn's impatience, but he had no better solution. The matter was of great importance, and he did not want the "Walking Dead" instance to be opened on the Great Wall while he was still busy in the south.

"By the way, Jon, my home is in a village near Sow Corner in the Riverland. If you pass by there, remember to report your safety to my family. My mother is not in good health. Please get her some medicine if possible."

As he spoke, the corners of Grenn's eyes turned red. Jon then remembered that Grenn was arrested for theft. If he had stolen the property of ordinary civilians, he would not be sentenced to death. So it must be because he stole the things of the nobles. As Jon's friend, he could naturally find a relaxed time to explain his affairs to Jon.

Grenn described to Jon what his mother looked like in his memory, and Jon took note of it carefully. He patted him on the shoulder and said, "Okay, I will definitely find him. Don't worry."

After that, the two hugged each other tightly, and Grenn patted Jon on the shoulder.

"Eat more, you're too thin."

Jon smiled, turned around and jumped on his horse. Grenn looked at his back which gradually condensed into a small black dot in the snow and ice, feeling very reluctant to leave.

However, he was truly happy that his good friend was able to leave this hellhole, and he also hoped that everything would go well for Jon.

Jon was dressed in black, riding a black horse, galloping quickly along the King's Road. Grenn kept looking at him until Jon climbed over a high slope and disappeared, and then he returned reluctantly.

Boom——

The heavy gate at the entrance of the Great Wall fell down, as if completely isolating the wilderness and weirdness outside the Great Wall from the Seven Kingdoms. However, the cold north wind was still able to pass over the more than 200-meter-high Great Wall, driving away the temperature and oppressing all things, as if to let the entire northern border know who the real king of the north is.
