Chapter 5 - 5. Are You Still Competing When PokéMon Can’T Even Defeat Me

After Evan sat down, he took out his laptop.

Opening it, Evan began to jot down his next plan.

"Breeders have to manage this."

"The energy cubes and berry trees are the orphanage's main source of income."

"It's just that the orchard is still a bit small."

"So, should we plant the unused areas in the back?"

As he wrote this, Evan paused, deep in thought.

In the past, the old dean didn't have much energy, so the orchard where the berry trees were planted wasn't very large. There was still a large section that hadn't been planted.

If those areas were used, the income could increase.

Unlike the old dean, Evan had plenty of energy to take care of such things.

"We don't have enough people, so the Pokémon will help."

"So, maybe we should raise some Pokémon that can assist?"

"There are also a lot of wild Pokémon in the back mountains."

"Maybe we can negotiate with them?"

As he thought about this, Evan's eyes briefly flashed with a blue glow.

He had Psychic abilities.

Talking to Pokémon came easily for him.

Moreover, his Psychic powers were strong.

But Evan didn't like to use them much.

When he used Psychic, it made him feel overconfident, almost inflated.

That kind of mindset made him uncomfortable.

After using Psychic, he often felt invincible.

But Evan knew that was just an illusion.

It was simply the shift in mentality that came with power.

"I'm not a pufferfish, so why should I feel inflated?"

Thus, Evan constantly reminded himself not to fall into that trap.

That mindset was hard to control.

So, he seldom used Psychic.

However, using a bit of it wasn't a problem.

As long as he didn't push his powers to the limit, it would be fine.

Communicating with Pokémon didn't require much effort anyway.

Thinking of his Psychic abilities, Evan recalled his system and its mysterious benefits.

It was quite frustrating.

That "dog system" had brought him into this world, given him a few things, and then disappeared.

[Squeak~]

Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed in Evan's mind.

Hearing it, Evan couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth.

"Are you alive?"

Evan hadn't expected the system to suddenly reappear.

Hearing his remark, the system sighed.

[Yes, I'm back.]

[Bringing you here nearly drained me.]

[But seeing how well you're doing makes me feel better.]

[Here, take your next set of rewards.]

[I'll hibernate again once more.]

As the system's voice faded, a flood of knowledge surged into Evan's mind.

[How to make Pokémon snacks.]

[Various energy cube formulas.]

[How to mix Pokémon potions.]

[God-level energy cube skills.]

[A comprehensive guide to move development.]

These were all gifts from the system.

Given Evan's powerful mental strength, he didn't experience any discomfort as he processed the influx of information.

Sorting through it, Evan couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

"So, even you don't want me to be a Trainer?"

"Everything you've given me is related to being a Breeder."

It was absurd.

Apparently, being a Trainer wasn't in the cards!

Emm…

Suddenly, he realized he had become one of the most knowledgeable Breeders in the world.

With all this knowledge, Evan was certain he wouldn't struggle for money in the future.

"Boil big bones into soup, add potatoes as starch, then mix in some Moomoo Cheese and a few berries to make an energy cube that boosts physical strength?"

"Also, coconut milk combined with fruits like apple and Razzberry can create a dessert that Pokémon will love?"

"This stuff sounds amazing."

"It seems like I could make a fortune by patenting these formulas."

"But then again, if I patent something unique, the whole world will know about it."

"Maybe it's best not to reveal everything when you're still flying under the radar."

Evan had no intention of registering patents for those top-tier energy cubes.

Registering a patent would mean making the formulas public. Although others wouldn't be able to use them for commercial gain, there would be nothing stopping people from producing them privately.

For any skilled Trainer, who doesn't already have a dedicated Breeder? A raise in salary for them? Not likely...

However, after giving it more thought, Evan realized that even if he did release the recipes, it would be nearly impossible for others to replicate them.

It wasn't that Evan was underestimating them; it was just that some of the techniques involved required knowledge and skills far beyond what most people could comprehend.

Realizing this, Evan felt relieved.

"Does this mean I'm safe?"

"Creating these incredible energy cubes requires special abilities to pull off."

"For instance, an energy cube that enhances the mental power of Psychic-type Pokémon?"

"That requires precise control of one's own spiritual energy."

"Not too much, not too little."

"And when making these cubes, there's a time limit. You can't make them too fast or too slow."

"Some even need to be made according to specific weather conditions?"

The method for making these top-level energy cubes, stored in Evan's mind, was incredibly demanding.

Some of the materials were rare and expensive.

At the moment, Evan didn't have the funds to create such things.

And so, Evan couldn't help but think that being a Trainer, especially a strong one, was outrageously expensive.

After reflecting for a bit, Evan decided to hold off on creating the top-tier energy cubes for now. Maybe in the future, he could find someone willing to pay for them.

"For now, let's just release some low-level and mid-tier energy cube formulas."

"I'll register a patent for those, partner with others, and make some money first."

"Even though I've decided not to become a Trainer, having a few strong Pokémon by my side isn't a bad idea."

"But first, I need money!"

With that thought, Evan made up his mind.

He wasn't aiming to be a Trainer, but that didn't mean he couldn't train a few powerful Pokémon.

As a Breeder, it was perfectly fine to raise strong Pokémon.

Satisfied with this plan, Evan gave himself a thumbs-up.

Then he glanced at the Pokémon egg sitting beside him.

"It's a pity I can't see this guy's attributes."

"But no matter. The egg's been soaking in water, so it's probably not that strong."

"Well, from now on, I'll raise Pokémon and see if any can defeat me. That'll be their graduation!"

"That's a happy decision."

With this, Evan lowered his head and began writing out the formulas for the energy cubes, planning to go out and register the patents tomorrow.

Little did he know, if his Pokémon knew about this "graduation" rule, they'd probably be speechless.

Sure, the system was a bit unpredictable at times, but the Psychic abilities it had given Evan were at Mewtwo's level.

Expecting a Pokémon to defeat him? That would be a tall order.

But Evan was unaware of all this.

In his mind, there was no way a Pokémon could defeat its Trainer.

If there were Pokémon he couldn't even beat himself, why bother having them? He might as well handle things on his own!

So, he set the rule: for a Pokémon to graduate, it had to defeat him. Otherwise, no graduation!

Before then, his Pokémon would need to stay obedient.

With this amusing thought in mind, Evan started enthusiastically writing down some simple energy cube formulas that weren't yet available on the market.

The production methods were cheap, and the effects were comparable to existing cubes.

Only in this way could the cubes have commercial value.

Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth the effort.
