Chapter 69 - First Impressions.

In the world where Kage found himself, Yu-chan began to fill him in on the planet's history and current state. "This world used to be beautiful," Yu-chan started, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "Lush forests, pristine rivers, and a society that cherished the art of swordsmanship."

He paused, glancing at the horizon where the towering walls of the urban area loomed. "But everything changed when technology arrived. It advanced too quickly for the people to cope with, and those who adapted first took advantage of the chaos."

Yu-chan's face hardened as he continued. "The ancient teachings of sword techniques and the values they upheld started to fade. The once harmonious balance of our society crumbled. Now, across that wall," he gestured towards the sprawling, grim cityscape, "lies a hell you haven't seen."

In the urban areas, inequality reigned supreme. The rich and powerful lived in towering skyscrapers, their lives filled with luxury and excess, while the poor were crammed into dilapidated tenements. Crime and corruption ran rampant, with gangs and powerful corporations ruling the streets. Pollution choked the air, and the once-clear rivers were now toxic cesspools.

Yu-chan's voice grew more somber as he described the impact on the rest of the world. "The cities' greed and disregard for nature have caused untold damage. Forests have been razed for resources, and entire species have been driven to extinction. The rural areas aren't spared either; they're exploited for their resources, leaving the people there impoverished and struggling to survive."

He looked at Kage with a mixture of anger and determination. "This is what we're up against. A world where technology has created a vast divide, and the ancient ways we hold dear are on the brink of being forgotten. But there's still hope. If we can reclaim our heritage and restore balance, maybe, just maybe, we can save this world from itself."

As they stood on the cliffside, Kage adopted the dignified stance of a samurai, his hands tucked into his garments just below his chest, exuding a calm and composed strength.

Yu-chan turned to Kage with a determined look. "Kage, we need you to join us," he said earnestly. "Your skills and strength are unmatched. Together, we could restore balance to this world and reclaim our heritage."

Kage paused, his expression thoughtful. The wind rustled his cloak as he considered Yu-chan's offer. The vision of unity and purpose Yu-chan painted was compelling, and for a moment, it seemed as if Kage might accept.

Then, with a mischievous glint in his eye, Kage cleared his throat and said, "Yu-chan, while I appreciate the offer, I've got this thing... you know, an important solo mission. Plus, I'm allergic to team uniforms. They make me break out in sarcasm and eye rolls."

Yu-chan blinked, caught off guard by Kage's humorous refusal. "Wait, what?"

Kage smiled, his hands still tucked in his garments, maintaining his serene posture. "Just because I won't join your group doesn't mean I won't be following your adventures. I'll be there, watching, like a very dedicated apprentice. And when the time comes, I'll step in if necessary."

Yu-chan chuckled, shaking his head. "You make it sound so easy. You know this isn't a game, right?"

Kage's eyes gleamed with a mix of humor and seriousness. "I know it's not a game. But trust me, I'll be there when you need me most, probably making a grand entrance with a witty comment."

Yu-chan laughed, a new respect mingling with his amusement. "Alright, Kage. We'll be counting on you. And just so you know, we've got your back too, even if you insist on being our mysterious, sarcastic apprentice."

As Yu-chan led Kage into the dojo, the other members of the group gathered, curious about the newcomer. The traditional wooden floors and the scent of incense filled the air, creating a calm yet focused atmosphere. Among the group were a girl and two young men, each radiating a unique presence.

The girl, with fiery red hair and a fierce gaze, immediately recognized Kage. Her eyes widened in surprise as she pointed at him. "You're that boy from that night!" she exclaimed, causing the others to turn and look. "It doesn't make sense... How could a frail boy like you break an artificial one so easily?"

The two young men exchanged puzzled glances. One of them, a tall and muscular fighter known for his love of battle, stepped forward, cracking his knuckles. "Let's see if you're really that tough," he challenged, preparing to test Kage's strength.

Before the situation could escalate, Yu-chan stepped between them. "Stand down, Kenji," he commanded, his voice firm. The muscular fighter hesitated but reluctantly obeyed, stepping back with a frown.

Kage, maintaining his calm demeanor, addressed the fighter. "You should listen to your leader," he advised, his tone measured.

Kenji looked at Kage with confusion. "Leader? We don't have a leader," he replied, clearly baffled by the suggestion.

Yu-chan chuckled, breaking the tension. "Kage, we don't have a leader here," he explained, glancing at the group with a fond smile. "We help one another when needed, just like you said. We're not bound by ranks. We're friends who stand by each other."

The realization dawned on Kage, and he nodded, understanding the dynamic. "Alright then," he said with a slight smile. "Friends it is."

The other young man, with sharp eyes and a lean build, stepped forward and extended a hand. "I'm Hiroshi," he said, his voice friendly. "Welcome to our group."

The girl, who had been watching with a mix of curiosity and wariness, finally spoke up. "I'm Yuna," she said, her tone both respectful and challenging. "I still can't believe you're the same boy from that night."

With that, the tension eased, and the group accepted Kage into their midst. The initial confusion gave way to curiosity and mutual respect as they began to understand the strength and skill hidden within him. The journey ahead promised challenges, but together, they were ready to face whatever came their way.
