Chapter 10 - 10. A New Resolve

The celebratory atmosphere in the locker room was one of triumph, but not unchecked elation. They had earned their third-place title with blood, sweat, and tears, but it was clear to every member of the Chinese team that their journey was far from over.

Sun Xiang, his usual brash self, leaned back in his chair, a grin on his face. "Not a bad finish, huh? We showed them who we are."

Tang Rou smirked as she wiped sweat from her forehead. "You mean we showed them who we can be. We're not done yet."

Ye Xiu, standing by the door with his arms crossed, nodded in agreement. "Third place is good, but it's not the goal. Not for us."

The room fell quiet for a moment, everyone reflecting on his words. They had fought hard, trained relentlessly, and worked together to overcome obstacles, but there was still a gap—a gap between where they were now and where they wanted to be.

Chen Guo, always the team's biggest cheerleader, smiled at them with pride. "You've all grown so much. I saw the way you played today. You're not the same players who started this tournament."

Ye Xiu stepped forward, his voice calm but filled with purpose. "She's right. This tournament taught us a lot. We learned our strengths, but more importantly, we learned our weaknesses. There are things we need to work on if we want to be the best."

Huang Shaotian, ever the jokester, chimed in, "Weaknesses? I don't know, I think I was pretty flawless out there today."

The team laughed, the tension easing slightly, but Ye Xiu's next words brought them back to focus.

"Let's not get complacent. We won today because we adapted, but the competition is only going to get fiercer. The World Invitational was a taste of what's out there on the international stage. The real challenge is staying at the top."

Tang Rou nodded in agreement. "I don't want to settle for third place. I want to be the best, and I know all of you feel the same."

Sun Xiang, who had initially been the most skeptical about working with the team, looked around at his teammates, his competitive spirit reigniting. "Then let's make sure we are."

Later that night, after the adrenaline had worn off and the celebration had settled, Ye Xiu found himself standing on the balcony of their hotel suite, gazing out at the lights of Zurich. The city was quiet now, the streets mostly empty, and the cool night air carried a sense of calm.

Tang Rou stepped out onto the balcony, joining him. She leaned on the railing, staring at the same view. "I think today was the first time I've really felt like part of a team."

Ye Xiu turned to her, his expression thoughtful. "You've always been a part of this team. But I know what you mean. There's something different when you go through a loss together and come out stronger."

Tang Rou glanced at him, her usual determination shining in her eyes. "Next time, we'll win. Not just third place—we'll take the championship."

Ye Xiu smiled, nodding in agreement. "Next time, we'll be unstoppable."

The next morning, the team gathered at the airport, their bags packed and their thoughts focused on the future. There was a quiet resolve among them, a collective understanding that their journey was just beginning.

Chen Guo, ever the team's morale booster, handed out snacks for the long flight back to China. "Eat up, everyone. I expect to see you all in training the moment we land," she joked, but there was a seriousness in her tone.

Ye Xiu glanced at her with a smirk. "You don't give us a day off?"

"Not if you want to win that championship," she replied, grinning.

The team boarded the plane, and as they settled into their seats, Ye Xiu took a moment to reflect on everything that had happened. They had come to the World Invitational as underdogs, and they were leaving with third place—a solid achievement. But more importantly, they were leaving with a stronger bond and a clearer sense of purpose.

As the plane lifted off, taking them away from the Swiss mountains and back to their home soil, Ye Xiu closed his eyes, already thinking about their next steps. He knew that the road ahead would be long and difficult, but he had no doubt in his mind that they were on the right path.

A few weeks later, back in their home training base, the team was already deep into practice. The intensity in the training room was palpable, each player pushing themselves harder than ever before.

"Focus on the timing!" Ye Xiu called out as they ran through new formations. "The smallest delay can cost us."

Sun Xiang's hands moved swiftly across his keyboard, his focus razor-sharp. "I've got it," he muttered under his breath, executing a flawless maneuver.

Tang Rou, on the other side of the room, was locked in a fierce duel with Huang Shaotian, the two of them testing each other's limits.

"You're getting faster," Huang Shaotian commented, dodging one of Tang Rou's strikes by a hair's breadth. "But I'm still faster."

"Not for long," Tang Rou replied, her fingers flying over the keys as she closed the distance between them.

The team's progress was undeniable. Their coordination was sharper, their strategies more refined, and their confidence was growing with each passing day. They were no longer the same team that had walked into the World Invitational—they were stronger, more united, and hungrier for victory.

---

One evening, after a particularly grueling training session, the team gathered in the common room to relax. Chen Guo, ever the team mom, brought out bowls of noodles for everyone, while the players settled into comfortable chairs.

As they ate, the conversation naturally shifted to their next challenge—the national championships were just around the corner.

"This is it," Sun Xiang said, his competitive fire burning bright. "This is where we prove ourselves."

Ye Xiu smiled, his usual calm demeanor hiding the excitement he felt. "We're ready. We've done the work, and now it's time to show the world what we can do."

Huang Shaotian leaned back in his chair, twirling his chopsticks. "The competition won't know what hit them."

The team shared a quiet moment of camaraderie, knowing that the road ahead would be tough, but confident in their abilities. They were more than just a group of skilled players—they were a team, bound by trust, respect, and the desire to be the best.

As the night wore on and the players began to head to bed, Ye Xiu remained in the common room for a moment longer, staring at the empty training room through the glass window.

He knew that their journey was far from over, but for the first time in a long while, he felt a sense of peace. They had come through the fire, and now they were ready for whatever challenges awaited them.

With a final glance at the room that had become their second home, Ye Xiu turned off the lights and walked away, a new resolve burning within him.

Tomorrow, they would rise again.
