Chapter 25 - Eden

The searing pain radiates from Kol's stomach.

Kol wakes up to find himself in a dark room only illuminated by a distant torch. Sitting upright on the wooded seat where he lay. The room was small and wooden, the wood itself was not well kept. Mold, algae, and corals grow from the cracks between planks. To the south of the room, there were bars of rusted iron replacing the wall. Water flows inside the room through the bars submerging the floor up to Kol's ankles. The small waves rushing in synchronize with the crashing sound from outside of the room. He was inside a ship.

Adjusting his vision to the faint light of a torch, Kol notices 3 other beings inside the room. 2 of them were already familiar to him, but the other wasn't.

"Good his awake." The elf guard said, half of his face illuminated by torch light.

"What happened?" Kol asked, still groggy from his sleep. "How long was I out?"

"Easy. Don't push yourself. You were badly injured." The elf said slowly approaching Kol.

'Badly injured? How come you're doing fine you took the same harpoon as I did.' Kol thought looking at the handsome elf in front of him.

"They took us here after the attack, we don't see the canopy to tell the time that torch is the only light we see, though we assumed 4 to 5 days have already passed." He said, "Occasionally they bring us food, and sometimes Eden comes to check on you."

"Eden?"

The other human guard sitting in the corner stood up and approached the bars. The captain of the Lindow guards, Kol remembers the elf addressing him that way before they were captured.

"The Sea hag who runs this place." He says as he kicks the other person crouched in a fetal upright position. "This rat here is to blame for that."

"I'm sorry. I already told you we were only given orders." The man stood up revealing 2 tusks protruding from his lower jaw, his nose was big and flat, with grey skin and a pronounced forehead. He was a Half-orc.

The captain and the orc started going back and forth. Without paying attention to their conversation, Kol looked around to make sure everything was accounted for.

Kol still has his spell book inside his bag beside him, he was using It as a pillow this whole time.

Trying to keep his nerves together, the cold air sets in. Kol notices the water level receding. Kol decides to Open his status.

'4 has been added. That means at least 4 days have passed.' Kol thought to himself. 'What about the duel?'

Upon thinking Kol's mind is flooded by thoughts of the island. The orphanage, Bea, Nicole, his classmates, and his teacher.

Eventually they all quiet down. Kol's emotions under check he decides to put matters into his hands. He doesn't intend to stay in this place any longer.

"We have to get out of here." Kol declared. "If you don't mind, I would like to ask what are your abilities and your names."

Kol's Voice sounded firm; his confidence made everyone in the room quiet for a few seconds. But everyone then responds.

"My name is Drew; I used to be the 3rd captain of the Lindow guards. I'm a 2nd level red energy user." Said the rough-looking man, though he was muscular, his build was still small comparable to Ross's. The only thing differentiating him and the elf in terms of rank is that he had a logo of Lindow in his shoulder pads, while the elf didn't.

"I'm Balfir, a high elf second in command of the guards. I am a first-level red energy user." The elf says

The half-orc looked disappointed but still complied as the two guards glared at him.

The Half-orc sighs, "I'm Zar, but I don't use any energy."

Upon hearing all of their introduction it was Kol's turn.

"My name is Kol, I'm a wizard, and with your help, I think we can find a way out of this place." He declares.

"I'm sorry how old are you?" the orc spoke, "are we really going to follow a child?"

"Shut up. That child was able to kill one of those fish monsters. While I wasn't even able to wound one on a one-on-one fight." Interrupted the captain.

"I was only able to kill one when I had help from another fellow guards' men," Balfir said, surprised at the captain's statement.

The orc stayed quiet.

"How do you intend to bust us out?" Drew asked.

"Yes, how? I'm curious myself." The greasy voice of a woman silenced the room,

Everyone tensed in fear, she was shorter than Drew standing on the other side of the bars. Her long wet black hair covers her face. 2 webbed and clawed hands wrapped around the bars, her sickly pale skin similar to a corpse left on a body of water to rot. Her smell was sour like that of a fish drying in the sun, Though Kol could not see her face, he could feel the fear from his 3 companions. This was Eden.

'Where did she come from? I didn't even hear her move through the water.' Kol thought.

"Well?" she said dragging her words. "I'm waiting."

Kol took this opportunity to take control of the matter. currently, he is aware he couldn't defeat Eden. But he can try provoking her to learn more about her.

"I will find a way out of here, mark my words," Kol said approaching the bars.

Eden began to laugh hysterically. Then she stopped, slowly revealing her repulsive face to Kol.

She looked horrid as if her face was a victim of an accident from falling off a cliff head first to the ground. Her eyes were protruding through her skull her eyelids were red and inverted it was bigger than a normal person's, and her lips chipped from dryness despite being wet herself. Teeth similar to that of a shark crudely lined her mouth causing difficulty for her to close it fully.

Her and Kol's eyes locked. Then a sound rang inside Kol's mind and the familiar blue screen popped up beside him.

[Frightened by Eden]

You are in a state of constant fear over the Sea Witch Eden. For the duration of the effect, you subconsciously move out of her sight.

[Duration: While looking at her] => [Duration: Permanent]

Kol sighs in disappointment.
